Lovely work Dan. Are you saying you used Garritan Strings for the orchestral strings? Great dynamics. How did you do the rubato feel?

Hi bdr,

I did use the old GOS library with GS3 on my old Dell PC.
Since my friend Jack created the harp and solo violin part in Finale, it was of course quantized and had no human feel at all. I expected that, and Jack knew that I would put my own rubato in the piece from beginning to end.
I dragged his MIDI file into DP's track window. I then loaded the Garritan Stradivari Solo Violin and a harp from GPO so I could hear the two playing. I created my rubato (feel) by manually drawing in tempo changes in DP's conductor track.

Once I was happy,,, scratch that... content with the feel, I started overdubbing all the data to make the MIDI violin sing.

It's still not as good as a great violinist, but heck, I'm just a recording engineer that thinks he knows what string players do to make pretty music,.... or music pretty. :) HE HE HE ,, it's still fun though.

Here is a 46Mb. Quicktime of DP's SE window showing the conductor and solo violin MIDI track.

Thanks for the post!

I checked out all your videos Dan. That last one in the above post kind of freaked me out! I don't think I'd ever be able to have the patience to get such an expressive peformance, esp. the tempo changes, I just have terrible trouble getting ralls. to sound even slightly realistic. And all the controller data in the violin, just makes it come alive.

Your youtube vid about the string dynamics was super informative also. You should post links to all these in the motunation Tutorial Videos forum.

Thanks for sharing and taking the time to explain.

Brett
