How to Get DP7 to recognize Patch Lists

Post by NealF »

I did this so long ago, but now I'm reinstalling everything from scratch (clean install mistake) and can't find out how to get DP to see the Roland patch lists. I did a search here but couldn't find it.

Are you sure the files are in the correct location? You should have one file named "Roland.middev" and other files named "<Model Name>.midnam."

<Boot HD>/Library/Audio/MIDI Devices/MOTU/Roland/

If they are, try this:

Open Audio MIDI Setup. Delete those instruments for which no new patchlists appear. Close AMS and relaunch it. Now add back in the instruments you deleted. Be sure you enter the correct System Exclusive ID number for each device.

Kind regards.

If Dave's procedure works, great!

If not, I have a step by step guide that the "Cherry Picker" app guy sent me that allowed me to restore one set of patch lists that were missing just a few days ago. (Roland, too)

I'm not on my studio Mac, right now, or I'd post it.

It involved what Dave said, but it also involved quitting and restarting DP, as well, a couple of times.

Lemme know if you need it.

The patch lists are in the right place. Before I delete the devices in Audio/MIDI setup, I noticed the one synth had a system exclusive ID of 0. The others were missing.
How do I know what id to input?

Another curious thing I just noticed. Some of the midnam files are gray icons with the word "exec" in green on it. Others look more like text files that can be opened.

Does that matter?

OK. My mistake.
I DO have the patchlists. I DON'T have the expansion card lists.
So I'm assuming there's a place to get them and put them in the same folder as the main lists?
I had this working for years and this is the first time I've had to do it again so it's totally foreign to me again.

I Just caught something from another thread and gave it a shot and it worked.

You go to Bundles and click on the synth. Then Edit. Then a MIDI device Properties window opens and you pick Patches.

There you can pick the list that fits what you have. The only tricky part is it doesn't say in that window what slot it's talking about so I had to do the old trial and error. But it looks like everything is fine now.

For others...(in this case my Proteus 2000-substitute your devices)

**************************************************************************

I would do the following to force DP to see the updates:

1) Quit DP, and trash your Proteus 2000.midnam
2) Expand the included file, and put it into the /Library/Audio/MIDI Devices/MOTU/E-mu Systems folder <Not necessary-Rob sent me the 2000 patch list>
3) Start AMS, delete your Proteus 2000 device, and quit AMS
4) Start up DP, and Quit once it has opened
5) Start AMS, add a new device, and make sure you select E-Mu Systems and Proteus 2000 from the Pop-up menus. Wire it up
6) Start up DP again - you should see the patches!

Rob
