My question is; has anyone replaced one of the ports themselves and if so how hard is it?

also how long is motu's warrany? i should probs go down this route before hacking the unit to pieces....

It is the power chord and it is not removable. Where on a preamp can't you disconnect anything? And where does that specific stress come to play on the FW cable? Today, even the power cables can be disconnected from most units! This is the reason I don't buy used equipment! And I wouldn't take anyones advice in replacing the FW connector to the PCB unless you have a nice soldering station and years of experience doing this. Think you have some issues now, go ahead and try it! The time it takes to disconnect EVERYTHING so there are NO stress points pays off huge dividends in the end... as you've painfully found out.
