I just tried this with some audio starting at measure 1. For the sake of this thread, I added 4 measures at the beginning of the sequence--- measures, -3, -2, -1, -0.

I set the Chunk start time to measure 1-- the negative measure numbers are gone, but the audio now starts at measure 4. I get the same result whether or not I "preserve current time frame" or "preserve length of time from start of chunk". What really troubles me is why the audio doesn't start at measure 5 if it has to start anywhere except for measure 1, but that's a whole 'nother topic.

Yeah, I know-- select all and left arrow everything into place, but what did I miss? After resetting Chunk start, there are still empty measures at the top to deal with. Will try this out again on a different computer in a little bit.

I've often wondered why-- if there is an Insert Measures feature in the Modify Conductor Track dialog-- why there isn't a Delete Measures feature as well.

Thoughts?
sorry for taking so long in getting back - been busy getting new studio soundproofed!

Not sure I understand? So I've just gone and put, as an example, 4 measures in the set chunks start time, and now the sequence starts at bar 4 (with the same timecode as bar 1 was now being at bar 4). The only thing that seems a bit weird is that I can't physically see bars 1 to 4. It's like having a 3 bar count in, and then the cursor starts moving when the counter gets to bar 4.

Is this what you're talking about? In which case, agreed it's a bit weird. I would have thought the whole point of this feature would be, to give an example:

Scoring a q for a film. Suddenly want to add a bit before-hand, so add 2 bars extra at the top. This would be super-simple. But instead, I would have to work out the time difference manually and then alter the chunk start time accordingly.

Actually, thinking about, what the heck is the point of this function then?

What's funny (or not so funny) is that SVP used to allow very simple add/delete time &/or measures. I think Editrack did as well (for Atari). But DP has this convoluted way of dealing with it.

I'm missing mt ST1040 about now (but not much).

+1 for MIDI Life Crisis's comment..I'm a SVP emigre too (since DP3), and have always found DP's 'Insert Measures' to be very fiddly..

In the future version of DP, I'd like to be able to, time-range select a part of a sequence (e.g. bar 5 to bar12), then hit 'Insert' to create blank space between the bar5-12 range..I think it's more graphic and easier this way--

.

And I'd love to be able to tell DP what time signature I want to insert for the measures as well.

There is a very easy way to do what you're asking. In the Tracks Overview Window -- where most heavy lifting of this sort is most easily done -- just jump to the end of the sequence (CONTROL-RIGHT ARROW until you're at the end) and range select the number of empty measures you want to insert. COPY. Now deselect everything (COMMAND-D) and type in the measure where you want to do the insert. Click COMMAND-K, and you've got empty measures. COMMAND-K is "Splice."

Working in the Tracks Overview has the advantage of preferring full-bar selections (unless you hold down the Command Key). An operation like this takes a few seconds and is a no-brainer.

The Insert Measures command has the advantage of allowing you to keep the relationship between SMPTE and the existing measures following your insert.

Another very easy way to insert measures is to click your insert point, then type SHIFT-OPTION-RETURN to select to the end of the sequence, then type COMMAND-L (Shift) and then type in the number of measures you want to insert. You may have to hit SHIFT-TAB first, to position your cursor on the bars, rather than beats.

These are commands you learn. Once you learn them, they operate so fast, so easily, and so accurately, that you just don't even think about what you're doing. You just do it. There are a lot of commands in DP. The menus are there for those who don't know the commands, or for those who prefer mousing to typing. Nothing wrong with that, but if things seem "fiddly" to you, then you would be better off knowing the commands.

Hey thanks Shooshie for your lateral thinking! Yeah I don't know why I didn't think of that (especially the first method you mention)...

It's a really good tip, thanx!

I know this is an old thread, but wanted to thank you guys for having an answer for me before I even had the time to ask. Worked beautifully!
