Now that many of us have bought these lovely plugs, perhaps we can share our insights about them.

I just remixed a song that had a female lead with a male counter line.
I had everything sounding really good, lots of plugs etc. but I added the NEQ-1972 to each vocal track.
I adjusted each to the best of my ears.
The new sound was considerably improved. More definition and lovely warmth.
I could post my settings, but I'm not sure if that would be helpful.
Again, I know how subjective this is.

These vocals were recorded with excellent mics and preamps, so I was of the opinion that they didn't need much processing.

I highly recommend checking out the NEQ-1972.

Well, I'm dumbfounded. Humbled. Awestricken. I've been throwing plugins and presets at some of my old files, and... well... let's just say I didn't know this was how it's done. I hear sounds that I've heard most of my life in both pop and classical music. I haven't been taking notes, so I can't tell you specifically what's the greatest, or anything like that, but every one of these plugins produces a sound that ranges from a subtle fragrance of a flower to a barrel of naphtha. None of them are wasted. They're really quite something. I can't wait until I find some decent matches with the music at hand to post and demonstrate what these can do.

But I'm not doing them justice with words. Let me try to describe what I'm hearing. I'm hearing sounds that I always thought were a matter of recording and mixing skill, and they turn out to be merely plugins/hardware boxes. I'm hearing the sounds that various engineers used to apply to hit records -- they're that recognizable, I think -- creating their "signature sound." It's all subjective; conjecture. I can't prove any of this. It's just that these things are hitting me like flies on the windshield. Each time I get this big grin and my mind's mind says "so THAT'S how they did that."

These are sophisticated plugins. Sophisticated hardware algorithms. I'm barely able to grasp what's going on in some of them, while others are totally opaque. But the presets offer a wonderful learning path: just click, click, click on the arrows, and immediately you see the knobs switch to new positions, and you hear the differences. It doesn't take long to realize what each knob is doing if you study them while switching presets. There's a lot to learn here. A LOT to learn.

In fact, I feel kind of sheepish, having grown so accustomed to the Waves interfaces, which show some imaginary representations that are brilliantly conceived, but which bear little resemblance to any hardware device or analog process. By comparison, most of these are simply knobs that point to numbers. It takes a little while to remember the fundamentals from which we came, which I was only too glad to give up in the Waves plugins, and to which I'm happy to return in these vintage devices. Yes, it's just pitches, crossovers, delays, thresholds, inputs, outputs, and such, with the occasional tube warmer, tape simulator, and even a somewhat cheesy vinyl simulator with pops and crackles.

These plugins are going to keep me busy for a LONG time, reconnecting with my audio roots and relearning analog-sounding devices. It dawned on me at some point that while these plugins may represent $3000 at Nomad Factory Prices, the hardware devices that they represent are practically incalculable, not to mention the fact that you can slap as many of them on as many tracks as you want. This is the definition of a million-dollar studio!

And one more thing: I don't think it would be possible to duplicate the output of these devices in Waves Platinum Bundle. Renn compressor and EQ would come the closest to some of the sounds, but... nahhh.. these sound like they stepped out of Abbey Road or Warner Brothers, or A&M Records.

Dude! I still have a LOT of tracks to redo, but I did one animation track in particular that I loved as it was. Applied a few Nomad plugs and heard elements of sounds I never heard before. Really interesting stff, not just artifacts. Frequencies that have been buried for a decade. I'll be processing a few orchestral works and expect that what was once an archive only recording may become a new release. Dang, I want to hear more of those woodwinds over the percussion!!! Woohoo!!!! THE BEST $250 I've spent in a long time (what was her name again...?) LOL

I didn't see the post till late, the night before the 10th. D/L'd the demo and messed with it on the 10th. A few hours before the deadline I made the plunge. Very happy here.

My own arrangement of "Chopsticks" using authentic Samurai Swords. Sorts of a performance piece in honor the The Who... LOL...
