DP 7 Officially Announced!!!!

I am asking if any one can tell me about the new Au side chain in DP7. Is it like a side chain used for ducking? Will we use it to control effects with another effect? Is it the same as in Logic? Could this be used to create more complex effects?

We won't know until we see it. My suspicion is that it adds sidechaining capability to MOTU's AU implementation. That means it would be up to each plugin developer to add sidechaining to their plugins. But I may be wrong. They could have figured out how to add side-chaining to any plugin. I just don't think that's what they've done.

I'm curious about what this means for DP 7, because support for AU plug-in sidechains was a new feature in DP 6 - see page 71 of the DP 6 Getting Started guide. Sidechain inputs now appear in the Waves Renaissance Compressor in DP 6.02, for example, which wasn't the case in DP 5.13. (I haven't tested it, though - maybe it doesn't actually work....???)

I think we're splitting hairs a bit. I don't kow why you're ripping on the guitars. I mean I have some nice guitars, but your post comes off as unnecessarily mocking and denigrating. ... As far as the MOTU videos go, I don't know what the first guitar is. Offhand, why it looks like what is probably a mid-range solid body electric with a single bridge pickup. I don't recognize the fret markers. ...

DP's Dynamics plug-in has had a side-chain input for as long as I can remember, for one.

MAS has had sidechain capability for a long time; the difference now is that MOTU's now supporting it in Audio Units in DP - but like I said a few posts back, this was a new feature in DP 6. I'm not sure why they're mentioning it for DP 7.

1) I wish MOTU would make system compatibility requirements easier to find. I finally gave up, but presumed the marketing hype of Leo/SL meant no Tiger support.

Thanks Ron. In my defense, they posted that on Friday and I'm quite sure it was after my post. I scoured the tech notes and unless I'm hallucinating (not an absurd possibility, mind you), it's not there.

Looks like my old machine will support it. Still, I'll need to see how much greedier it is on my meager resources before I pull the trigger...

When I first read this I thought: I didn't send him anything... I 'phrased it' as you might say "Joe Somebody sent me such and such." And then read 'sent me some crap' and started getting angry. I had to read it several times before I "got it." DUH!

BTW, if you get emails that say you will get xxx, please feel free to pass 'em along.

$1800? For DP?! I don't think so. Maybe you are talking about yen or something? I've had Performer since 2.7 and DP since ver 3 and in all that time I haven't paid $1800 for all the versions, INCLUDING MachFive 1 & 2, MX-4, and Unisyn.

Sometimes I wonder if MOTU has anybody in their twenties working on staff. They should consult their interns. Someone would have said "Umm... can we choose a cooler guitar?"

Sometimes MOTU's marketing seems tone-deaf to modern youth sensibilities. This is, of course, the very thing that Apple is absolutely ingenious at. Finger on the pulse, and all that.

RE: the guitar: it wouldn't have to be expensive. In fact, the opposite is preferable. Something simpler, more classic would have worked. A '52 telecaster, a Danelectro, an SG, an Epiphone Casino, etc...

Anyway, movin' on.

We're on the GUITARS again are we? I mean really how distracted can we get from the real issues, tell me? And yes they have people in their twenties working there. How many copies do they sell to twenty-somethings anyway? Those are your mBox/PT LE crowd anyway, but hey... MOTU should try and bust that market open huh?

Seriously, when was the last time MOTU came here and shared with the world what their plans were with the future of the application? I'm supposing you're asking this rhetorically? If so, I think you should explorer this topic all you want over at the new sticky topic created just for people who have gripes about the not-yet-released DP7.

We really could not care less about the production value of the video.

We do care a bit about the GUI and substantial parts of DP 7. I would agree this one indeed falls squarely into Z complaints department and agree with the James dudes point.

As I read more about 7 I'm really getting tempted. Is two weeks really the date for ship?
