He is not kidding rumour has it James switched back to his Commodore 64 and a Sequential Circuits Sequencer. He may upgrade to a Commodore 128 soon... He took his Mac SE 20 and made it into a fish tank...

Hehehe... as memory serves there was no SE 20 just an SE 30. I unfortunately never owned the SE30... just an SE with a whopping 20MB internal hard drive! :) I do have the aquarium kit for it but never got around to completing the project. :(

Is it possible to go back to OSX 10.5.6?

What happened? For me it was the best OSX update since 10.4.11. There are articles in several places on how to go back to 10.5.6. If you Google it and look for the Apple support article .... Basically, you do an archive and install of 10.5.6, or of your original Leopard disk, and then apply the 10.5.6 combo update. Then you have to go back into the archives that are created and move stuff over. It's a PITA -- worth a bit of time seeing if you can fix the problem with .7. For a start, did you repair permissions abd do the other basic maintenance before and after, and did you use the combo version of the update?

Thanks bayswater... yeah I did the combo, repaired disk permission. I have not tossed the DP prefs yet... Ok trashed prefs... just now. I will see if that works.

I am not going back to 10.5.6... I have done the archive installs and PITA is a mild description for that process. So I just gotta get this going. I feel like a knucklehead for doing this in the middle of a project but it seemed everyone was saying it was working for them. Maybe trashing the prefs will do it...

Basically I am getting quits right in the middle of play. Waves seems to be having some problems. Basically I have to go real slow. No quick save, set the bar number and push play... If I start dragging the wiper around or doing tweaks on plugins... boom... quit... It is also hanging then it's like two files are open. So I save if it even comes back but If I put it back in play it just hangs for good.

So I am working scared. I have been there before.

I'll let you know if it gets better... thanks for letting me know it works...

OK-- an update on my previous reply. I just installed the latest update-- Quicktime and iTunes were included I believe-- and my previous difficulty seems to have vanished. (ie every time I restarted I had to reinstall MOTU Audio since it could not see my PCI card.) I've only done it once, but the feeling of relief is palpable.

If this changes, I'll let you know. This is the only problem I've had since updating.

Good that the problem disappeared, but note that QT and iTunes updates are not included in OSX updates.

Fair point, but I was thinking more that there was a general sound issue that may have been resolved by something in one of these updates. It's highly likely that I'm wrong about that.

In any case, it's one of those niggling things that no longer niggles, thankfully...
