ultralite MK3...hmmm

Post by jpetrou »

hey guys!

im new to production and just purchased a motu ultralite mk3. just want to know from others out there using this interface. is it normal for sounds in windows/mp3s in windows to have a slight delay when they play? for instance when i first start up the mk3, and open an mp3 file it begins playing for about 1-2 seconds before any sound comes out of my speakers. and same with opening folders in windows, it seems to miss play the whole sound and only play the last bit of sounds. this doesnt happen all the time though, if iam listening to mp3 or using the sound card then it seems fine. soon as you let it idle for a 30seconds or so, it seems to go into sleep or standby mode and do the 1-2 second delay thing again.

also how bout this little nugget: when i first turn on the ultralite and turn up the volume, the headphone volume is default at start up? why is this? wouldnt it be main volume, then click down for headphone volume second? strange??

is this normal? i doubt it is, and i doubt it is a problem with my ultralite as it works fine in cubase... it might be some other kind of problem?

my pc is a intel i7 920 with a gigabyte ex58-ds4 motherboard and 6gb ddr3. iam running xp32. also i have installed the latest driver from motu (.1400
or something similar) i might revert back to the one with the cd and see how that goes...

any ideas?

thanks.

Have you checked the buffer for a latency setting ?

Forget the buffer... I dont think it is a motu issue, something in your hardware setup is wrong - Firewire ? Try changing a card with FW... I dont know what else...

I was seeing a similar delay problem with the newest driver (3.6.8.1400), but it only occurred after I installed the driver and rebooted. Then, it went away. I'm using Vista 64-Bit, and I I have windows sounds off.

You may want to report these issues via a MOTU TechLink.

I didn't and don't experiece this delay with the 3.6.8.1400 driver. Maybe you can try this driver: http://babelfish.yahoo.com/translate_ur ... =yfp-t-501

No, that's not normal. I have also installed the new 3.6.8.1410, and I don't have that delay.

You may need to contact MOTU tech support. Also see if raising the hardware buffer sizes in Audio Console will help.
