Nice work, fellas.
Guess the cat's out of the bag now.
I just hope MOTU will not disallow future tweaking by we 'Cornies.

If I could, I'd post some of the work I did in DP5.11-5.13, but I can't post pics, and they're redundant now anyway.
I made a bunch of skins that pretty much altered every window, slider and knob, even in plugs.
The 3D nature of the mixer presented some challenges, but I managed to overcome them using a free app that allowed layering, so I was able to create transparent "overlays" to do faders etc.
It looks to me like DP6 actually lends itself to much easier customisation.

If anything, IMHO, we should be asking MOTU to not change our ability to access and alter these things; if it sees this as an important feature to its customers with overwhelming support, we could all be happy about the GUI. ALL of us!
Problem solved. :D

Thanks Monkey Man. I'm still working on tweaking and will post final results when I'm done. I see no reason why MOTU would stop anyone from customizing their own desktop, and and for me the tweaks will probably be at the mixer but we'll see what happens. 8)

Thank you Billy. I might hit you or Rick for your tweakings to save time; I'd likely aim for similar results anyway - just a little less glare and some added clarity.

While you're at it, why not see if you can shade the GE and TO backgrounds a little, eh? :D

with the Default_Style.xml, and please note that these colors are NOT optimal, what I have done. I would spend a LOT more time really tweaking things out properly, this was just a test. These are actual screenshots of DP WITHOUT any photoshopping. While you would not have my images for the mixer changes I made, here is how I got all the background colors to be what they are:

Yes, the TO is too dark, and I haven't figure out how to change the background of the actual center area. Never the less, WOW, I could change a lot and know there is a lot more I can change!

Nice work grimepoch. Hey, can you cross post this in this thread, which we have that is tracking changes to the GUI? Be great to keep all this info in one place.

Guys, you really don't have to repeat the pictures every time you post a message. Looks cool, yeah. Obliterates your message. Duh!

Thank you for posting this Grimepoch!
I photoshopped my mixer already and you just saved me some time by hooking up these xml files. 8) Nice work and thanks again for your generosity.

They probably adjusted the image to look pleasing...now they need to just apply the same principle to DP
But that's my point. What did MOTU photoshop? It looks like the same screen that I have in DP6.
take any screengrab and lower the dimensions and it will look more pleasing. It's simply because the details have been washed out a bit, and it's those details that we hook onto. It those details that turn a gui from good to soso or bhwaaaak!

The screenshots ARE pretty much the same, your's is full-size though, the MOTU one isn't

I wont, I promise! :) I just don't have time till maybe Saturday. Got a big producer coming to my studio this weekend to meet me so I am actually cleaning up a bit in there :) That has to come first!

And no problem. I am glad Motu has put all this in there. Maybe they can expose more settings so it is 100% customizable.

You're doing a fabulous job grimepoch! When I look at those images you posted, I wish I was using THAT version of DP right now. I've been playing around with modifying some of these things on my own, but progress is slow and I would almost prefer to start by utlitizing your DP design (if you are going to share the files) and then make any further mods, if necessary.

But so far, so good. You seem to have an eye for these things. It is looking much, much better. The dark background in the sequence editor makes those coloured soundbites stand out nicely, but I'm not sure how it will look with MIDI and other colours. Can the background in the sequence editor be different from the background in the MIDI editor?

I like the solid colour of the soundbites in the Tracks window. Groovy Doo! :-)

You might want to bookmark this one as well, there's additional info on GUI mods here too:

I believe this may be the start of a long tradition: A DP Fashion Show or "Miss Universal DP GUI" - perhaps hosted by Dick Clark and Ed McMahon.

Get em cheap while they're still breathing!
Success is just one more plugin away! And happiness is as close as your next upgrade.
