Send Outs on the 828 MK3

How to use the two Send outs on the 828 MK3? is it possible to use them from Cubase or is it assignable on the CueMix software only?

i would like to use my external Reverb processor with the 828. from what i understand, the send on the rear of the unit are corresponding to the front mic inputs, and any rear input can be used as an fx return. i would like to send some of the 1-8 input signal to the two sends outs rather than using the two front mic/instrument inputs. it that possible? where can i do the necessary routing?

On my 828mkII, the sends are only for the two mic/guitar inputs on the front panel. And yes, you have to use one of the 8 line in's on the back to return the signal to your computer.

any other way to aux send/return a signal from this little baby? using maybe the main analog/out/ins?

I just ran a short test, my external sound processor lexicon MPX 550 uses SPDIF for digital, I tied the SPDIF from the MK3 to it and am able to use the different effects in the mix.

i checked, the MPX 550 is having coaxial RCA connectors for S/PDIF, unfortunately (or fortunately), my reverb unit is a Behringer V-Verb Pro 2496, which is having XLR AES/EBU and optical (toslink) S/PDIF...

im wondering if there is any cables that will hook the two units, without requiring the use of some kind of converter like the behringer ultramatch pro...???

The Adats on the mk3 are convertable through the audio console to Toslinks.

I just built a cable like this:

I used it to connect my behringer rev2496 aes/ebu input/output to motu 828 (mk ii) spdif coax rca connectors. Seems to work ok.

Maybe there are also ready-made converter cables, but I couldn't find any however.

very interesting, thanks for sharing the info.. anyway, i guess i will stick to analog connections for now, planning to get two additional pre-amps to add 16 ins and make some use of the lightpipe connexions..
probably something like the presonus stuff or the motu 8pre ...
do you use both reverb engines on the r-verb?are u able to do so using the aesebu/spdif cable? this thing sounds really great btw

I see mention of using the spdif connections as send/returns as for external effects. Can tha analog in/outs be used the same way? I have a BBE Sonic Maximizer I'd like to use. I'd use just one channel.

yes, but it might introduce some latency to the returned signal. DA/AD conversions slowing things down a bit.

Thanks. I've read the tech note on MOTU's site, about patching in external effects, but I'm still having issues. I am running Out8 into the input of my BBE and running the BBE out into IN8. What would be the proper way to setup the routing for this in CueMixFx? Preferably I'd like the option of either recording with this effect or not (just being able to play back through my monitors with it). Would I basically set up 2 different mixes?

Do you see any indication of signal getting out to your BBE? You may need to check in CueMix on the output of that channel. I can set mine to +4 or -10 in CueMix individually on each channel. Also make sure which bus CueMix is using to output your affected signal.

i'm doing this to send some of the signal to my reverb processor, using OUT7-8/IN7-8. however in your case, you need to configure the BBE as an insert and not aux send, so that you get the full signal processed.

latency is not an issue for me as im using direct monitoring in cubase, that let me keep the flexibility of choosing whatever audio chanels i want to send some dry signal to... however, trying to get my external synths to get the same processing and send some of their dry signal to be processed by the verb processor introduced some latency when direct monitoring is disabled..
