Using an older MIDI timepiece
I am trying to hook an older MIDI timepiece av up to my mac pro. Problem is it is not the miditimepiece av usb. Can i hook this up using another cable or is this just a boat anchor to me?

Re: would this work
No. There are timing issues that these devices can't handle.djmikeybee wrote:what about if i get a usb to serial(rs422) adapter. Would that work?
If you buy a USB MIDI Timepiece you can network your old MTP.

There was a lot of discussion about this back a number years ago when the Macintosh switched from serial to USB. I may be mistaken, but I don't remember anyone coming up with a successful solution. They could get the emulators to work with some devices, but as I recall, they wouldn't work with MIDI. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. I don't know if the archive for UnicorNation goes back that far, but you might do a Google search on that subject and look in the vicinity of 2001-2003. I think that was when most people were struggling with that issue. Good luck.

Off the topic a bit but there's a guy here in San Diego who tries to post his SERIAL MTP/AV on the local craigslist every 2 weeks or so for $395, hoping somebody isn't informed.

Hey, maybe I should try that. I've still got my old serial MTP-AV sitting out in the garage.James Steele wrote:Off the topic a bit but there's a guy here in San Diego who tries to post his SERIAL MTP/AV on the local craigslist every 2 weeks or so for $395, hoping somebody isn't informed.

About G4 and Stealth Serial Port
I have a G4 1,4Ghz Sonnet card (originally G4/450) running Mac OS X 10.4.9 and a Stealth Serial Port with 2 MTP II.
I have NEVER had any kind of problems. Stealt Serial Port is equally good and reliable with OS9 and OSX.
And with DP 5.1 all MIDI instruments are perfectly driven.
I've only encountered several problems with SoundQuest MIDI Quest 10XL...
But it's not Stealth Serial Port's fault.
The big problem is that now Stealth Serial Port is not anymore avaliable for G4 but only for G5 machines...
It's a sad new

Hello.
Many thanks for your answers.
M. Miket, you say you have a G4 running Mac OS 10.4.9. But, which is the software which controls the MTP II ? It is the problem with the MTP AV. Do the last USB MIDI OSX Drivers and ClockWorks are compatible with a MTP AV serial through a Geetree Stealth ?
I've still got my old serial MTP-AV sitting out in the garage too

Hello.
I asked to Geethree a question about compatibility for a G5 with a stealth card and a MTP AV serial interface.
Here is the response :
Hello,
If you G5 can support an internal modem card, then we have a Stealth card
that should work. You will need to use our Serial MIDI plug-in, not the USB
driver that MOTU provides.
Best Regards,
