Generally, I'd agree with that. But there is much to be said for making what you have work for you. Some of my best scores (IMO) were don quite simply. IN the old days, that meant a TEAC 2340 (still have it!), a piano, a floor tom tom and an 18" cymbal.

Sometimes just a piano will do.

Of course, I also LOVE to use MachFive. MX4, PlugSoundPro, V-Synth, and all my other toys. But I am also very careful about VIs. It is easy to duplicate sound sets. I find the PSP X-Treme FX card to be very similar to Evolve and quite enough for me in that genre. But who knows, in 2 weeks I may be banging on Heavyocity's door for an update.

Such is life. :)

Hi MLC,

Do you mean X-Treme FX by Ultimate Sound Bank? If so,my experience is that it's more of a sound fx/sound design tool really geared toward sound scapes (IMO). Evolve is a completely different animal. Evolve can take a composers existing library collection and really spice it up. When we do orchestral dramatic tracks for our clients atHeavy Melody Music, we find mixing many of the rhythmic loops, huge hits and otherworldy stingers of EVOLVE with some of the other great orchestral library's out there gives us a very exciting combination. While EVOLVE can stand on it's own, we also intended it to be used to add the "icing on the cake"; those signature elements whether rhythmic or tonal that can really breath new life into a composition.

Again Thanks for all of your interest and support.

Thanks Neil. First, may I say I really appreciate your "objective professionalism" in discussing your product here, as well as the simple fact that you are taking the time to post these messages.

You are correct in what you say. What I was trying to say :) was that for the special FX kinds of sounds I am hearing in your synth, I get a lot of that from the X-Treme FX card. But no, the more musical stuff you provide is certainly not available in the X-Treme card. There is some looping in the FX card, but what I hear in your synth seems much more musically developed and, perhaps, more useful for musical settings (as opposed to simple ambient applications).

Frankly, if I needed the kind of sound in your synth, I would not hesitate to purchase it. I simply don't have the project that is right for it - yet. :) I am up for a sci-fi feature in a few weeks. Might be perfect ;) I certainly hope so, for both our sakes!

Most of the examples are dark in nature which is actually cool for me but I'd like to know that I could also use Evolve in a straight up R&B, Pop, or Hip Hop production without sounding too techno.
Examples of that would personally be helpful for me and possibly others.
Hi Kwiz, we've posted some new demos, check them out!

EVOLVE Update 1 is now available for free download

The update will fix minor issues in some instrument presets (eg. smoother loop points, velocity sensitivity fixes). In order to make the installation process as smooth as possible, we have included all of the instrument and multi presets in the update. You can simply unzip the update folder and replace the Instruments and Multis folders in your Heavyocity/Evolve directory.

You can find the update in the download section of http://www.heavyocity.com

**This method of overwriting the presets will cause all user re-saved or altered presets to be erased. To avoid this, please follow the instructions in the "readme" enclosed in the zip file.

For more information please refer to the Heavyocity website, http://www.heavyocity.com and the Heavyocity forums, http://forum.heavyocity.com/phpBB3

I bought Heavyocity about 10 days ago. I work in a large church in Orlando, and I am part of the team that arranges, composes, and performs the music for our 5 different services.

I have not delved into the product extensively, but in simply glossing over the presets and multis I was able to find several instances that I used in this weekend's worship music. I found them subtle but effective and I will be using Heavyocity in the future for a variety of things to be sure.

It is heavy (!) on the percussive/sound FX side, but since I do not own the Plugsound Pro package Mike mentioned I can't draw a correlation with that, however it is a different animal than my Korg Legacy set. I haven't had the chance to use the samples in Kontakt 3, but it seems like there would be lots of room for using scripting, though I am certainly not programmer enough to make that judgement.

The biggest selling points to me were the bio's and enthusiasm of the team who created the product, and after my limited though very positive experience with Heavyocity I feel confident in the purchase. Although I really like the product, it is not a panacea, so this is not an endorsement, just my thoughts.
