Motu Ultralite, Please help me...from Spain.

Post by Juan Pablo »

Hello from Spain. I have recently aquired a motu ultralite. I work with logic audio 7.2, and in the ultralite display appears an icon in the form of an M, flashing contantly, and sending MIDI data to the MIDI window at the logic transporter. Could someone help me to resolve that problem?, What does the M icon means when is all the time blinking?. Please help me.!!
Im triying to do my best in english and I have to say that my mate John help me a bit to do this :) .
Many thanks in advance.

Hey Juan...welcome....

I'm using Logic 8 (not that familiar with Logic 7).

In Logic, do you have an "external MIDI" track armed? If so, click the red "R" record enable button to turn it off, this should stop the constant flashing.

Have you been able to record any MIDI in? If so, can you record to a "software instrument" track?

Juan...I also meant to say that I'm having a similar problem.

Just curious...what happens if you play a couple of notes on, say, the caps lock keyboard?

Hi tele, thanks a lot, I did what you said to me but nothing, dosent work.

1º (In Logic, do you have an "external MIDI" track armed?) I`ve got the faderport( a little control surface), and I click the red "R" record to turn it off....nothing the flashing continues.
2ºwhen you say external MIDI track armed, you mean that there is any MIDI device that I have to disable in Logic or you just have to press record to armed the track.
3º the caps lock keyboard? Dude, I cant understand what you mean, Im sorry for my shittty english, Could you please explain to me what does that mean simple, Im completely lost......
Just want to tell u that your help is of great value, you dont know how grateful are your replyes.
Thanks again. Pablo

Hey Juan Pablo...

Since I have no experience with logic 7, I highly recommend that you contact motu tech support...a "techlink"

First, have you been able to get ANY MIDI into logic through the ultralite?

Second...if the m's are flashing, that means MIDI is being sent to the ultralite...do you know what this MIDI is? If not, you may want to download a free MIDI monitor from www.snoize.com

third...in logic 8, there are three types of tracks, 1 audio, 2 software instrumnet, and 3 external. Start a new project, add a software track, then see if you can enter MIDI.

make sure all is correct in the audio MIDI setup ... and in the "click and port" layer of the environment (I"m not sure this exists in logic 7 - if it does exist...check to see it's correct).

if you download the MIDI monitor, tell me what MIDI is being sent.

In logic 8, if you click the caps lock key while in the arrange window, a QWERTY (i.e., a computer keyboard) keyboard appears, you can then enter MIDI data by typing on your computer keyboard. If you install the MIDI monitor you can see this data being entered.

again, since I'm new to logic, I suggest you contact motu...they are usually pretty good about walking you through a series of tests.

good luck

1º Thanks for your advise,I did it but no response from 2 days.

First, have you been able to get ANY MIDI into logic through the ultralite?
2º No problem sometime I connect my miniKorg, and works perfectly

Second...if the m's are flashing, that means MIDI is being sent to the ultralite...do you know what this MIDI is? If not, you may want to download a free MIDI monitor from www.snoize.com
3º amusing,I was impress, thanks for the program and the information. The MIDI monitor says that the MIDI is sent by the faderport(control surface), says something like ZERO;ZERO;ZERO
I went to the faderport configuration, there is a control how says return to zero, I tried to turn it off but nothing, the problem continuos.

make sure all is correct in the audio MIDI setup ... and in the "click and port" layer of the environment (I"m not sure this exists in logic 7 - if it does exist...check to see it's correct).
Exist, but I expend about 1 hour because my logic is in Spanish, im so stupid(Click y puertos). I did everithing but nothing

I sended a message to faderport support, no response so Im going to wait.
Please this is my e-mail addres in case you need something from Spain.
