What kind of crash? Is it a DP crash or a kernel panic?
I'm not sure about leaving the cover off. The airflow system over critical components may require the cover to be in place.

When I upgraded to the 2.8 8-core it wouldn't fit in the isobox which I had built for my G4 Macs. Thankfully the 8-core is extremely quiet and is not a problem from an ambient noise standpoint.

Leigh, they are DP crashes. I think I am running too many VI's at once and then after the machine has been pushed hard for hours it seems like it needs a break. A restart is like magic. I'm not a computer tech but it SEEMS like either all direct from hard disk sample reading and buffering across all the different drives for extended periods starts to gunk things up and it needs some naptime, or things are just getting to hot after prolonged use and it needs to chill a bit. But it always comes back strong.

Not sure about the Intels, but the G5 has a baffle that fits inside the panel cover. Instructions warned me to never operate without it.

There's nothing worse than going through all you've been through only to have it pass all of Apple's tests so I am glad it failed for Apple. I believe you definitely deserve a new machine.

Interesting update on my 08 mac....
After replacing the motherboard, GeForce 8800gt graphics card and running the stress test again, the machine fails. They are thinking now it's the raid card.
I really expected that but still unsure. A mac pro genius on the discussion boards said overheating had been an issue with ATTO boards but surprise, Mac's too?
They are going to bit copy the drives and hand me back a brand new latest update machine I guess. I asked them to please run the stress test before I accept it.
I can't say enough good things about the way they handle mission critical clients like we are in DAW environments.
Hurray! x3 for Apple. Now I know why I paid so much.

Which is to say that this describes the problem, but I have no idea how to fix it. The rest of the log that you posted is stuff I recognize as the boot log for DP. Sorry I can't be of help. I really don't know what could be causing the problem. Can you give us any clues as to behaviors before, during or after?

Thanks Shooshie. Well to be honest, it's 80% there compared to the machine I had with a bad CPU. They even replaced the raid card with the next best version they had. So... Looks like I'll just live with it and be careful continuing to save allot. Nothin new there.
I looked at the 8 cores in monitor during PB and wow, they look great. Data seems dispersed across all eight evenly.
I also notice that because I have the airport card option it was left on and looked like data was coming in and going out. I turned off all of that and disabled everything I could that might take attention away from audio.
So far it's ok and the late hour overheating is gone. it seems to run cool and stable now.
I think because of the VI's running here with several instances of each one I'm putting a bit of pressure on the SAS drives though.
On the G5 with the REAL scsi's, they could take everything I could throw at em which is a lesson learned here for future expansion.

What are SAS drives? (darned those acronyms!
) Is that something I've missed, or are you referring to Serial ATA drives? Took me a couple of minutes to remember ATA, myself, so if that's what you meant by SAS, no biggie. But if it's something I don't know, then I need to know it!

I think SAS is Serial Access SCSI.
So does SAS constitute a meta-acronym?
