yeah - I thought of that too - or non "apple" ram -
I replaced the "non" apple and still the problems...
i put the non apple back in and now have 5 gig ( should update sig )
As 4 gig is the max DP can access - hopefully isn't RAM
it's weird it's not ALL projects...
Not even all projects from same template - ( which has been recreated to eliminate as source )
but once a project starts to cos - that's it - it just keeps on doing it....
I thought I had it sussed - with copy/paste/duplicate save solution - and if it comes back just do that again - but it seems not..
It could be related to firewires going to sleep on bus as a combining factor - but then I ejected all drives and it made no difference - was still COS -
Not sure it's USB MIDI as it happened on my Imac which has got 828 - so no other MIDI/ usb
it's not wacom tablet -many users vouch for them ( unless it's wacom tablet and long projects? )
well if Kazuya and arion don't report back with probs I may have a real close look at uniinstalling and trying with out wacom installed? hope my rsi can take it!!!

I once hoped that 4,5 GB of RAM is just enough...
Right now we are working on a 1 hour project. Today about 10 hours. 1 crash when i tried to hear a part of a soundbite right after import. That‘s O.K. for a day like this. Still got my iLoks and the Hub disconnected and went back to DP 5.01 (just for this one because i could not open it in 5.12., but that‘s another task)
It‘s really like fighting against a computervirus. once you think that you have fixed the problem, it crashes again. you fix it again, it works for a time and suddenly it crashes again...
These computers definitely have a soul and they know when it hurts most.
I have to finish 2 projects this weekend as we go to mastering on monday. hopefully i don‘t have to report probs.
Good LUCK FOR ALL OF US

I'll inform you. Ist's unfortunatly now impossible for me to remove my iloks becouse we do MIDI work all the time.kazuya wrote:hi arion,
please keep me up to date with the iLok stuff.
Would be "funny" if DP works fine without the iLoks of the Motu stuff.
Whenever i have the choice to use challenge/response for activation i prefer it.
Hope it works for you
... o.k., maybe we have to sell our MachFive and MSI... and my SonyPlugIn and...and...and...
Wow - a new info , since I work exlusively MIDI ( not audio at all ) I had no crashes..
USB
Mixed the hole Weekend, over 20 hours heavy DP use and everything‘s just fine.
Today i had 1 COS and i thought: ••••, the Problem is back and the USB thing is not the sollution...
Then i remembered that i used a usb stick 1 hour ago and left it mounted.
So the COS again with USB...
mmmhhhhhhh, i can the clearly now, usb is gone
Have a good night, i have to sleep now, in 5 hours i have to go to the masteringstudio...
Next week i‘ll make some usb cos ilok tests !!!

hey dude! that's good news... there are definite things that I find cause it - but I haven't discovered them all.
I thought I had solved it- and on the whole it is MUCH better
I found if I let a drive go to sleep whilst mounted then it could crash on save...
Once projects COS they COS no matter what - you need to repair them - ie make new projects and duplicate audio - ( well it's just a theory - or maybe a ritual to go with my prayers...) and it usually works for a day or 2....
Perhaps you could still report the issue to MOTU - they need to know from a few sources!
cheers

This happens to me all of the time on LONG projects with MANY sound bites...I often have to "Save A Copy As". These are always around 1.5 to 2 hours long. After doing so many projects in DP for so many years I feel like DP has issues with long projects (not high track counts though). It tries for a second or two to save the file then DP quits...once that happens it seems to not be able to save the file at all without quiting on me...like it reached a wall or something?

hi David - nice work btw - I checked your ambient stuff a month or so ago... I do a lot of film sound design and I'm totally into ambient sounds - I'm more manic than mystical tho! I have made quite a few synth sounds from airconditions etc - trippy and errr cool!
For sure this is a length of project thing! unfortunately as a sound designer I am usually am working on at least 20 minutes ( 1 reel) or occasionally a 90 minute cut - my template is around 50 channels (18 stereo - 32 mono - 4 verb returns and 5 surround submasters)
I don't think it has ever happened to me on a short project!
the weird thing is it can be fine for days at a time - then crashing every 20 mins... ( to add to the weirdness - it's just one project - other projects fine!!!)
Now I do the ritual if it COS more than twice in an hour and that mostly gets me going again for a day or 2.
I have filled a tech report with motu
can you fill one in and be ignored too!
who knows they may fix this in DP 6 if they know more than one has this issue - that would make me very happy as apart from this DP is great!!
cheers!

Thanks for the compliments on my work...I would love to hear some of your original sound design work and mixes for sure. I too often have one project that seems "Corrupt" in this manner. usually consolidating or bouncing some of the dialog tracks that have so many soundbites, fades and volume-mapping and "Save A Copy As" to a new file has helped but it always comes back. It seems that once this happens the file has trouble saving from then on. I am 100% convinced that this is a length/size issue - I NEVER have this problem on short-form cues and spots.

think there is one online - 2nd time around and empty words -
I seem to be a bit slack in finishing my own stuff off really - waste too much time on internet - in front of DP all day for work..... ( lots of work stuff online
- this is my own little bit.. all made from orphans I found at work...
