DP Crashes during save

Hi,

i‘m having a problem here. Got a big project, 80 Min., about 100 Tracks. Sometimes DP crashes when i try to save the file.
Not really a "save" feeling

you too? ( no need to apologise - I loved germany - i was there at the beginnning of the month - I went over for the berlin film festival!

I thought I had solved this - but it has come back again...

there are several things you can do... ( these have all worked on occasion )

I suggest you open your project - select all and copy - paste into new project ( maybe you have a template for your 100 tracks... )
save as and duplicate..

if you are not a big user of the sound bite clip gain setting ( very useful in movie sfx work ) then you may use the "compact project feature" - I suggest you save as and dupicate first inc ase of any unexpected problems...

You might also have a look the size of your undo history -

I would also trash your prefs after each crash - suggest you get prefs as you like then quit DP before any crash - then duplicate that prefs folder - you may then replace all prefs easily after every crash...

What plug ins are you using? I found that apples AU matrix reverb might have been at issue - and for a month after I stopped using it I got no COS - but now it's back...

could you do me a favour? please also contact MOTU with this problem - they are telling me it's only me and unable to replicate - but it's happening on all three machines I own - unfortunately I CAN reproduce the problem on all machines!!!

80 minute project? 100 tracks - I must ask what kind of stuff you are doing! sounds interesting!

thanx for the reply. I had the problem a few month ago with one project, mixing another project the same time with no COS. I never use Apple AU‘s and try to have a look at my history (hey, i‘m a german, we always have a look at our history

Yesterday the problem came back. I repaired permissions, flushed my undo history and today everything was fine. Hope it hold‘s on till mastering!!!

The stuff i mix is called "HÃ¶rspiel" and it‘s popular in germany since the 70‘s, but i think the rest of the world does not listen to it very often.

It‘s like a film with no picture. Not like a audiobook. Different scenes in different locations with all the sound you need, to give the listener a "film" in his head. We are working with german "syncronstimmen" of George Clooney, Elly McBeal, ...
That‘s fun if you see the german voice of the american stars

I‘m going to contact MOTU with my problem via mail and in 2 week on the Musikmesse in Frankfurt. They can not escape

hey that's cool - it's like english radio plays on the bbc - my german is not AT ALL good - any links to hear on net? ( something impressive sounding?!!!

I used to love stuff like jeff waynes war of the worlds - similiar? )

of course germany had some other cool stuff - Nuebaten ( spelling??) and wasn't stockhausen german?

back on topic - there was a thread on gripes and off topic - called COS I love it - and another one - think there was some other advice there too.

it's seems there is some weirdness with MOTU - people with error 193

and the only app I've seen this on - the save as dialog often takes a while to show the updated file list...

go get em' - I'm going to chase them up again over this.

That‘s the Label i‘m Mixing for. All the stuff on their page is mixed by me. There are scenes with more action and sounds, but this one might be funny for you. The first voice you here is "Holmes". It‘s the german voice for John Malkovic and many others, the second voice is Watson. That‘s the german voice for George Clooney.

... and of course, i‘m going to get them.

Seems like DP is popular in America. Here in Germany many poeple don‘t even know about it.
It‘s the only DAW that comes with an english handbook. Even had to switch my OS X to English because of a DP problem.

no luck with the mp3 link - maybe log in problem? just gives me a gif banner -

I am not religous at all - but even I pray sometimes when using DP

I mostly do a bow to all 4 points of the compass chinese style...

it doesn't work tho!!

i'm also longer stuff - generally SFX for films - 20 minute reels around 40-60 tracks.. the troubling thing about COS is it usually happens in just one of the 5 reels that most features are made of... So when tech support says it's a plug in - then it doesn't make sense... or they say it's my machine... or they say something ridiculous like - close the video and carry on working - ( like how can i? - sometimes it happens every 20 mins - sometimes once an hour )

I suppose you aren't using video at all? are you guys PAL in germany?

Had COS again yesterday. Yes, it appears whenever the computer wants to stress you. Same Project, nothing changed, just another day and it happens all day. Next day everything is fine again...

I think you are right, we are PAL here in germany but i‘m really not sure. I do a lot of Video-Stuff, but they always give me a small quicktime movie and get a wave file from me. Most is music. I did some things for Porsche and Audi and they also give me a quicktime movie.

Do you have a Link to some SFX stuff you did? Sounds interesting to me.

I have this problem since the beginning. I record " HÃ¶hrspiele " all the time.
After a specific length - I can't tell you an exact value - longer than a usual pop-rock-jazz song, we have regularlay crahes on save.

And crashes on stop recording. Hitting the space bar during recording I have at least one crash a day.

so you too? so some kind of project length link is emerging.. I suspected as such as it's never happened to me on a trailer!!!

I actually sent tech support a DVD with actual projects that COS - they said no probs - strange becos they COS on all my machines IF you work on them long enough... ( of course if you just do a couple of random edits and hit save then - they will appear fine probably )

Hi guys,

after "repair permissions" "flush hundo history" "delete DP prefs" "update Altiverb" and many other things did not help i remembered that my iLok(s) don‘t work once in a while. They are attched to a active Hub with noting else connected, just 2 iLoks. Every 2 days DP says, that my Machfive is not registrated, i klick continue, he find‘s my iLok and i can go on.

So today i disconnected the USB-Hub (did not need my MachFive, MSI or TransMod in this project).

No COS and no other crashes

after 11 hours of mixing

Hope this is my solution.

I‘ll keep you up to date.

Hope the USB-Hub is the key to my COS.
Maybe i‘ll get anotherone or install a usb card into my last free pci slot.

That‘s why i hate this iLok stuff. Maybe they should develop a firewire iLok. I never feel good with usb, no matter if it‘s a harddisk or just a MIDI interface.

I have two iloks ( mach5 and msi ) in my g5 quad since the first minute and never removed them. I'll do it now and hope.......

Would be "funny" if DP works fine without the iLoks of the Motu stuff.

Whenever i have the choice to use challenge/response for activation i prefer it.

i seriously hope that this has solved it for you..

I just sent my resport to MOTU - crash on save - if you have time could you report your issue - maybe they will look into it if more people report it.

thing is I don't have a USB hub - only usb items I got are wacom tablet - a number of users here reported no problems with that..

I also have a M-audio "uno" usb MIDI thing - that connects to my mackie HUI - pretty sure that's all right ?

good to hav a quick listen to your stuff! are you usin reason as well?

Today - again - no COS

So maybe it‘s my Hub. I never trusted USB. Today we copied a DP-Project on a USB HD, opened it on that computer and everything was fine. Than we tried to copy it to my G5 and suddenly some audiofiles could not be copied. Also the Project file was destroyed. Then we copied it on a firewire disk. Everything worked just fine...

Yeah, I‘m using reason since last xmas and i love it.
Nice Sounds and Plugins for HipHop beats.
Low CPU use and never crashes !!!!!!!!!

Back to Topic, i just see that you use a mackie HUI. I used my microKORG via usb. Did not work very well. Now i use it via MIDI into my 828. Also had problems with my MOTU microlite MIDI interface...

would be interesting if you still have COS with these things disconnected.
