call motu, be at your computer when you call.

Listen to what they say and do exactly what they tell you while they are on the phone. They will help you.

Best of luck

ahh...missed that.

do you see the motu device (or any device?) listed in system profiler under firewire? option-click apple menu, system profiler is first menu item...click "firewire" on the left side.

open motu audio setup in your applications folder. what is the driver version listed at the bottom of the window?

additionally can you try this --

Do you have an external hard drive?

If so -- install Leopard to it

Then install just the LATEST motu driver.

----

Does it work? Then something is messed up with your internal hard drive install.

I am first going to ask you politely to not ROLL YOUR EYES at me.

It is horribly rude, especially to someone who is trying to help you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now as to the time it takes to do this bit of troubleshooting I suggested to you:

-- 30-45 minutes to install Leopard (Go have a smoke or a coffee or a beer, or all three if you wish)

-- 5 minutes to install the Latest MOTU driver

-- !0 minutes to test

So to me that looks like about an hour. Part of which your are to be smoking, and drinking coffee.

You have already frittered away that much time looking for the eye-rolling smilie and making unfounded claims about the 896HD product.

An hour to eliminate a possible cause for your trouble is nothing, and will provide more info to MOTU.

BEST OF LUCK!

my working motu 828mkii says "unknown unit" too - it's not an indication of a problem. you appear to have the correct drivers installed as well.

when you installed the drivers...you didn't change the install location, correct? make sure you leave it as default - don't click the "change location..." button.

Hey man, no problem. I know you are finding this very stressful.

I am hoping that you are able to solve it soon. I think it is probably something very simple.

what application are you trying to use with the 896HD?

have you selected the 896HD as your output device?

Testing on another machine is a real good idea.

If apple store will let you do that, it is good. I would expect they will if you set up time with a "genius"

If not do you have a friend with a mac? friend with a PC and firewire?

If you do these things and it does not work, tell MOTU.

BTW what happens when you launch MOTU's "Cuemix" application??????????
