I have some potentially bad news for you on this one. About a month ago, I got the exact same error code and message. I had been working on the file for months. One night I saved the file, everything was fine, I went to bed, and the next morning I got that error. No idea why it did that; the only thing I had been doing that night was MIDI editing, not exactly a stress test. I have never been able to open up that file since and I've tried lots of different ways to do it. I ended up using a back-up version from a week earlier and spending a lot of time and effort reconstructing what I'd done since the last backup. Hopefully, your situation will have an easier resolution. I since got rid of that G4/5.01/10.4.6 setup and moved to an iMac/5.11/10.4.9 and haven't had a problem like that since. Now I "save copy as" every hour or two. Good luck.
There may be other causes of a -43 error, but if the .L and .R files for a stereo audio track are not in the same folder, you get the -43 error. It is easily reproduced, just drag either a .L or a .R file without its mate from the audio files folder in your project folder to anywhere else and then open the project. *ID -43*. You can look for lone .L or .R files in the audio files folder (or wherever you keep them) and either find their mates and reunite them or delete the lone file. If you delete the lone file you get the missing files dialog when the project opens.

thanks all
chucks you got it!!
i had dragged a file "blah".L out of the audio files, when reunited with its mate , it opened.

I get a different version of error -43.
When I try to drag-and-drop a stereo AIF file from a finder window into a DP 5.1 track, I sometimes get "Mac OS Error File Not Found (-43)".
Trying to import the same files using the Import Audio command gets me the same error message.
The files is question were created by DP using the Export Selected Bites command in the Soundbites window's main menu.
These AIF files play back fine from the CD that I burned them to, and even things like Reason's file browser window and Toast's audio CD page will recognize and play them.
DP, their creator, has orphaned and abandoned them.

There is an even easier fix:
I went into DPs preferences, and mucked around a bit, just clicking and tweaking a few things. After I did that - changing nothing related to the problem, because there ARE NO prefs related to the problem - everything was hunky dory.
I guess the prefs file was re-written after I changed some stuff....
