Share tracks between projects?

Post by crumps »

am looking to recover some lost work from an old version of a project I am working on. I currently in the old version have two tracks that I would like to transfer their data over to the new version of the song, and I do not know if this is possible. I would rather not have to just bounce the information down to stereo tracks, as i feel that would impair my ability to adjust the settings, or keep the feel. Is there any help out there for me?

It could be you want to save as a clipping and bring it into the new project as aclipping.

Couldn't you just go to the folder where the audiio tracks are and drag them into the new project? Seems like that would work.

That's exactly what I'd do. It doesn't get any easier or quicker than that.

Well, maybe not as simple as it may appear...

If there are a lot of edits in the tracks and you want to keep the original info for any later tweaking, then twistedtom has the answer; save the tracks as a clipping and import the clipping to the new project.

If you are done with your edits on the two tracks, then do a bounce (or re-record to a new set of tracks) and import the bounced tracks into the new project. Bouncing the tracks will not affect the "feel" of the track. Bounce them without effects if you want to keep them clean for processing in the new project.

Either way, not too hard.

I actually was hoping to transfer all of my edits: volume draws, effects chains... and I wanted to be able to edit still if needs be, so just dragging audio tracks won't do...
Clippings... okay. Sounds like that may be what i need to do then. Thanks everyone!

clippings will probably crash - at least mine do on on my old g5 my macpro and the imac I borrowed... and my g3 from way back when - clippings are great for fx presets and "channel strips" tho...

best way is really really simple!!!

open old prject - note tempo - select the bits to want - everything? select all.... now copy....

close project..

open new project...

tempo the same?

set insertion point to first track and correct time...

press paste....

all will be pasted.... ofcourse you will have to have enough tracks to paste into - ( use show clipboard if u can't remember...)

and get this - even soundbite gain is brought across - ( which if you used load sequence would have been lost... )

now use save as and duplicate audio to avoid problems later....
