Mr.Clifford - "I downloaded that AU plug-in manager so that I could disable AU plugs that I don't use much in DP. You can save different configurations of plug-ins. "

hi what is this AU manager/do you have a link?

Well the honking mac used to doppler by me on starting session....

but now it's honking like it's in a traffic jam.!!!

I mean the sessions open up and all but take a while

On the subject of pluggins - I'm with da monkey man - pretty much my machine is as has come from apple...

I did try wave arts - but it got jettisoned when I was debugging a month ago - was probably a quicktime issue

actually I'm just bummed out that ambience didn't work ! That was my favorite reverb - I'd send the guy another $20 if he'd port it to UB..

But yes - it takes eons to start Dp...

might try timing this tomorrow...

err it might be the wrong guy

but

I'll be back.....

Just curious-- same plugins now as in the early days of the MacPro, or have you installed more stuff since the bog started?

And-- approx how long does it take for yours to boot up?

it took 2 mins 2day

I just have the basics - DP's basic set and the AU that are in the OS..

it used to be quicker

today time at 2 mins....

I hadn't timed it before but it seemed longer...

it loads up plugins - I see them whizz by - then it freezes - and thaws to the reading project bar after around 2 mins..

Does anyone know where I can find that Audio Units Manager? I searched for it and came up with this link: http://www.grantedsw.com/aum/, but unfortunately that site appears to be gone.

I'm brand new to DP - my competitive crossgrade copy arrived yesterday, and the only thing I'm somewhat disappointed in is the startup time. Cubase 4 started in 15 seconds: DP takes 60. And yes, it's all the plugs-ins: it seems to take a long time to load Altiverb and 2 different Waves shells. I also have the UA plug-ins but it seems to load them pretty quickly.

I look at it this way: if DP's stability is good and I don't have to restart it all the time, then this will be a non-issue.

DP in DAE mode seems like it takes 2x as long as in MAS mode- like it has to look at each component for DAE and then look at each component (or at least plug's/VI's) again for DP. With a big session with VI's etc. this can be 10+ minutes. For a similar session in PT it seems about half the time.

Mine takes about 90 seconds on a G5 dual 2.7 w/ 6 1/2 gigs of RAM OSX49.

I noted that Altiverb takes at least 30% of the start up time, (I think loading all those IR's).

I'm a plug-••••• and it continues to take longer, but that's a welcome trade for increased stability in 5.11

Yeah, Altiverb takes awhile. As a Waves AU (as opposed to MAS) user, I have seen a dramatic reduction in DP startup time. As noted earlier in this thead, the tradeoff is slightly slower instantiation of each plug in a session. It appears that MAS pre-loads the plugs and AU loads 'em when you need 'em. This would explain DP's longer startup times.

As long as we're not crashing, I'm Alfred E. Neuman (or Neumann in audio circles): What? Me Worry? :D

Ah ha! Thanks, HCMarkus, for pointing that out. After moving my Waves MAS plug-ins out of the MAS directory and using the AU versions, I see exactly what you're saying.
