4.6 crashes

Post by Terence Blanchard »

Hi this my first time writing. I have a G5 2.0 dual w/6.5 gigs of ram, an IgniterX lite card,30 inch display, IR verb, Powered Plugins, Mach V, MX4, RMX, Real Guitar, Ivory, and a pci 424 card with (3) 2408's.

I just downloaded 4.6 and now my system has gone crazy. I created a file with 4 v racks, 3 tracks of audio 4 MIDI tracks and close to 3 plug ins per audio track (not a big file). When I start to do anything the file will play for a little bit then crash my entire system. Can't force quit, can't do anything but power down. Any ideas.

Thanks

Have you done any troubleshooting like trashing prefs and repairing permissions? Are you running the latest drivers? Some folks had to remove DP4.5 from their system or something - I don't recall the exact details 'cause I never had that problem. You might do a little digging and searching of recent posts or maybe someone will chime in.
Could also be a corrupt DP file or audio file. I'd at least try to create a new fresh file (not with these same audio tracks) and eliminate that as a cause.

To Dr Vague

I read some other forums, and I think I had a corrupt file. I've created a new file, and have not had any problems so far, but I've taken 4.6 out of my system. I might try to dowload it again, but now I have to finish a project first.
Thanks for getting back

You might try latest version of OS first or another drive with fresh instals of OSX.4.2 and DP 4.6 just for safety.

Hi Ricebean,

Could you elaborate a little on that ?

Or may be just tell us where to find some information on this "prebinding update"

Thanks a lot !

pre-binding is a unix process that can help speed up performance. to do it: launch Terminal and run/type <update_prebinding> or when booting up start in single user mode by pressing Cmd-S at start up. at the command line type <update_prebinding> and press Enter. when done type Reboot and press Enter.
i do this as part of regular maint. i shut down my mac at night and the unix scripts don't have a chance to run automatically. also try Macjanitor to help with maint. hope this helps. :)
