Like 666, I'm running a 1.25 ghz dual MDD and am OK with Waves, DP 5.11 and OSX 10.4.8.

David Polich wrote:Yes, Shoosh, that's correct. I'm still on my PPC Mac, I don't have an Intel Mac.
I addressed that, too, in the same post. DP 5.11, Waves 5.1(?) in MAS, everything worked (see the very top of that post). But I was answering multiple posts in one, as there seems to be lingering doubt as to the viability of Waves plugins in both PPC and Intel versions with DP 5.11. I'm just saying that there is a version that works for each of them. MAS for PPC, and AU for Intel. Mas presets do not "stick" for AU plugins, btw.

On the other hand, I have not tested automation in the AU version for Intel.

That's all for now...

Automation's always a crapshoot with Waves. The SSL plugs automation doesn't work anywhere in any version.

Shooshie, be careful. I, like you, installed Waves 5.9 on my Intel Mac and thought all was fine. But as luck would have it, at the worst possible time (I had a client leaning over my shoulder), DP quit. When I tried to re-open the project, no dice.

Well that was the first incident but not the only one. After several unexpected quits over several weeks, I noticed they always happened when adjusting something in a Waves pluggin. I've since then uninstalled Waves and have had no problems. Be warned, my friend.

Thanks for the warning. I'll always save before messing with Waves.

No problem, man. Let us know how it goes. I'd be interested to know if you experience the same problems.

Hmmm.... I have not had one problem like that UNLESS it involves switching between a netshell and AU.... Then again, maybe switching from MAS to AU will cause this as well...

As everyone probably knows by now from my previous posts, I installed the Waves AU plugins (version 5.9, for Intel Macs) and they are currently working with DP 5.11 on my MacPro Xeon 2.66. I have the Platinum bundle, and about 4 individual plugins on top of that. So far, they've been working just fine. But since Phil told me it will crash DP, I've wanted to get the lowdown on the problem. So, I just got off the phone with Waves tech support. Here are the words from the horse's mouth:

Waves AU version is [translate: "is probably"] compatible with Intel Macs and DP 5.11 in all cases EXCEPT:

1) automation
2) those plugins that use MIDI (vocoder, trigger, side-chains, etc. )

The 1st simply doesn't work, and the 2nd can crash Digital Performer.

The rest, he said, should work without incident. Based on my preferred plugins, the MIDI problem is really not a problem with me as I only occasionally use those kinds of plugins. As for Automation, I can jury-rig at least some of the automation by putting the plugin on an Aux, sending tracks to the Aux, and automating the fader instead of the plugin. That doesn't fix it, I know, but it's at least a small form of automation still available to Waves users until the MAS version comes out, which I expect in the next few months.

About MAS: He said it is in the works, it is a priority (he said this enthusiastically, for those who look for every clue), but he would not commit to a time frame.

Asked about the difficulty of using the waves website to upgrade products and authorize iLoks, he said that the next version of Waves plugins will fix that. He said they're going to make it much easier to authorize. I told him my story, which took me all night to get the damned authorizer to work, and I asked him if he had heard that story before. He said, "of course! That story pays my salary!" But they are going to make it easier to upgrade and authorize via the website.

So, YES, your Platinum Bundle will work with DP 5.11 on the Intel Machines (and on the earlier machines -- G5, G4). Just avoid the plugins that use MIDI, and prepare to go without plugin automation for a while, until MAS is done.

I'm still using it, and still haven't had an incident, but I'm still saving files and backing-up like crazy.

OK here too, on PPC G5, 5.11 and OS X 10.4.8

There will be new Waves updaters soon for DP (next month).

Sorry, I just realised that I'm repeating myself. I already said this in this post (and probably a couple of posts too). Anyways... they work!
