How did this turn out? This happened after a tape dump we did using the same set up in Tiger... any thoughts? The strange thing I saw, was that after a spotlight search, we couldn't find the files but noticed that the drive space was decreased immensely - so audio files were definitely created somew...

I'm a fan of ProTools ability to set auto-crossfades. Very handy when you have loads of vocal takes and want a 10ms buffer on either end so you don't have to worry about clicks at the top/tail of a soundbite. Helps in situations where you're time crunched! Maybe DP could implement this, but I'd rath...

I'll try it - how would that speed up my saves? I assumed the undo list was additive... ie, it wouldn't save the whole list everytime.

Frodo - I have no VIs installed in DP at all... still on 10.3.9 with DP4.6 - haven't plunged into 4.61 yet. The only thing I can attribute to these saves is the UAd card... it's the only thing in my system that's changed in recent months. Prior my saves were long, but they seem to be getting progres...

Slow saves?

My saves have become progressively slower on larger projects. Looking at up to 25-30seconds to complete a save! Is this normal? Considering how much I hit apple-s in a session, it's starting to eat up a lot of time!!!

Yeah... they're nowhere! So weird. I had installed DP 4.61 and then a week later Tiger 4.3 got installed on top of it...that's most likely the problem. DP still works, but my plugs are gone!

Looks like it's time for a re-install.

Lost my Plugs!

Not sure what happened... but I updated my laptop to 4.61 and ended up losing my native Motu plugs! They're no long inthe Library/Audio folder either! : ( Is there a way to just reinstall the native plugs, or do I have to go back and do a full 4.5 install again and then upgrade to 4.61? Any thoughts?

I would agree with the 'schematics' comment by Timeline... Specifically, It would be helpful to understand how the summing process functions in DP.

So you are calibrating to a sine wave playing at 0dbFS? Or are you calibrating so that 0 dbVU= -20dbFS (standard US film/TV calibration)? I say this because I've never heard of calibrating to 0dbFS... you would have no headroom if you did! As for DP's 'green meters', just like Digi's meters, Logics ...

I highly doubt that publishing a white paper was done by Digidesign because Avid is a publicly traded company! The major incentive was to explore the rumors about mixing ITB and the issues of doing so... I also think because of the high price of entry into the world of PTHD, it behooves them to show...

Meters in DP (and all DAWs really) are completely arbitrary. There's no measurement of headroom and the "0" starting point means nothing.

I use the UAD Precision Limiter or Waves' PAZ meters to get a sense of where things are on a dbFS level.

DP White Paper?

Digidesign released a white paper entitled the 'ProTools 48 Bit Mixer'. Basically, it details what is going on with the bits during mixing ITB and to illuminate how summing is occurring in their DAW. Here's the link: http://akwww.digidesign.com/support/docs/WhitePaper_48BitMixer.pdf I would LOVE if ...

Westla -

Could you give me a page number? I can't seem to find anything in the index or the Playing and Recording chapter of the DP manual.

Thanks so much -
