I owned both DP4 and Logic 7. As you say there is no apparent way of using the great plug ins in DP4 - I wondered the same thing!
By the way OMF is certainly not an avenue in any way as there appears to be a serious problem with OMF in Logic 7.

Re: A new Hypothesis about the Shortcomings of DP and Host b
Re Pro Tools stability.
I have worked on two projects with OMFs imported into Protools in a sound studio. Result? Many crashes over the months we worked on the projects - some really major.
DP? Have only used it since beginning of the year. No crashes.

Re: Why Digital Performer?
I think DP will suit your purpose. I am a film maker who only over the last year really got into the audio side of things in a deeper way. It has indeed been a steep learning curve but now i love this stuff! I use DP4 and Metric Halo hardware which gives outstanding sound quality (especially with my...

Re: Not Sure
I used Logic 7 for a while and switched to DP4 which is really I believe an excellent programme. It really has hidden depths and is very intuitive to use. The manual is also much better than the Logic manual. I dont believe that you can use Logic plug ins with DP4 - at least I couldnt!

Re: Audio Desk 2 Users?
I use DP4.5 but dont use the MIDI function at all. I tried to get Audio Desk but apparently it is only available if you buy MOTU hardware - is that right or can you get it independently?

I also have had a very stable experience with DP 4.52 and latest Mac OS. In fact I have not had a single crash at all. But my sympathies and hope you work it out.

Re: Warning for n00bs
Dear Pascal,
Thanks for the explanation and it is fair enough. You should see the letter that I am about to write to Apple about Logic 7 which I purchased and actually had to return! Hope you sort out your problems quickly.

Re: Warning for n00bs
Wow! I am guessing from your post that you dont like DP 4.5? I have used Logic 7 and DP 4.5.Let me tell you Logic 7 has its fair share of problems! I really like DP 4.5. I have had a very positive experience with it and also with MOTU thus far. Maybe if you could tell us what specific problems you a...

thanks for the (possible) tip off. I was just about to uprgrade from my dual processor G4 (which has served me except for the massive noise from the fans which sound like a harrier jet taking off) but will definitely wait.

Re: DP-Movie Settings
I have certainly used the 16:9 mask in FCut Pro for an entire sequence for material originally shot in 4:3. To avoid doing it for each clip I simply exported the sequence as a DV stream and then reimported it. The mask then can be applied to that whole new sequence. I would be surprised if Final Cut...

Re: purchasing new dp system
I can answer the bit about the competitive advantage version as I just purchased it. I migrated from Logic 7 (which unfortunately cant handle OMF or XML audio import from FCP) and so was entitled to purchase the significantly less expensive competitive upgrade. The answer to your question is that th...

Re: DP-Movie Settings
I dont know much about IMovie but in Final Cut Pro it is pretty easy (does IMoviedisplay the soundwave as a separate track?). You can visually sync up the soundwaves on the DV sound track you imported with the sound track you recorded. Import the sound track you recorded and put it underneath the DV...

Try Metric Halo. I have a ULN-2 and it works really well with DP-4. The sound is superb.
