Re: New 4Pre - no audio in Garageband

Probably a good idea. Thanks.

Re: New 4Pre - no audio in Garageband

Update: I was able to get some audio through channel 3 into garageband, but I had to boost the trim up all the way and even with him practically yelling into the mic we only got moderate volume levels. Any ideas why the levels would be so low? We've tried several different mics, different cables, etc.

New 4Pre - no audio in Garageband

I suggested that my father get a 4pre for some basic recording in Garageband. He's using 10.7 and a MacBook Pro Core Duo. My problem is that I'm 1200 miles away and I'm having a hard time helping him get it set up. We did a screen share and I can get the device to work to a point: Audio MIDI sees th...

896HD (original) Faulty Input

I have one of the original firewire 896HD. Channel 1 has some kind of problem. The problem first started with a bit of a hiccup about half-way through the gain where it would be very quiet until a setting of about 6 or 7, then the input would jump up significantly. This unit has been passed around a...

Re: Selling/Buying Advice

I haven't really gotten too far in my swapping project, but I'm reconsidering whether or not the 8pre is the right device or not. I liked the idea of the 8pre because of it's price and the fact that I'd have the ability to use all 8 channels with mics, but I don't see ever needing to do that. At mos...

Selling/Buying Advice

I have an HD192 and the thing is just way too much hardware for my needs right now (I'm a relatively new dad, hobbyist musician). I'm thinking about selling it and picking up an 8pre, which would also let me get rid of the mixer I'm needing to use for phantom power. I don't foresee myself mastering ...

Re: Advice needed on SATA drive...

I also recommend the Seagates, as they have been reliable for me, and don't recommend the Maxtors, which have not been reliable for me.

Whatever you have, just make sure that you have Disk Warrior. Really. It has saved my life on a number of occasions.

Re: cubase sx over DP?

The drum editor in DP kicks Cubase's butt. I'm still new to DP and often still work in SX because I know it so much better. There are some great AU's that you can't really run in Cubase without getting really creative and spending some money. I'm having real difficulty adapting to the DP workflow, t...

Re: URGENT firewire drive help

I have to put in another vote for DiskWarrior. After I lost a cd wallet of backups when I moved and a HD crashed, It saved some drives for me that Norton's couldn't and 2-3 years of work. I love diskwarrior.

That reminds me that I should run it again soon.

Well, there is definitely no .middev file for my manufacturer. Will Cherrpicker be able to help me create one as well?

Bank Select Problems - Audio MIDI Setup

I'm having a hard time getting my Generalmusic S2 to play nicely with DP (and OSX in general?). It's not a device that OS X, specifcally Audio MIDI Setup recognize. That's fine, I guess, and I was happily rolling along just using it as a MIDI controller until now. I want to use it as a sound module,...
