well, i agree it is sorta weird. my thought would be this (i don't have DP 5 btw yet) since you can mix and edit with a your buffer set to higher level. it tax's the proccessor less. where maybe they are ass-uming that when people record they set the buffer a lot tighter, for less lag.. and in that ...

though basicly no one has heard this thing. so it really impossible to form any real opinion. i like the idea, and here is why. first, if you want that 1176 sound. get a freakin 1176. i for one. can't afford 12 x 1176's.. or 6 x La2a;s.. etc. sure i sum outside the box, but pretty minimal mixing hap...

i've had expensive RAM go bad on me, as much as cheap ram. and cheap ram is so cheap. you can put more in. making up [if there is any] whatever is lost in "quality".

well, depending on what you do for money. i have a friend who recently has been using his old DAT machine, to transfer DATs to computer files. for money! as in, people actually have DATs, and no DAT machine. walla. so maybe some bands out there have some ADAT tape from old sessions, that do, or will...

if its firewire or not, doesn't make any difference on A/D conversion. that would take place inside the IO. so your actuall IO unit will decide how your A/D is.. my understanding. though not 100% sure. that if your run a lot of drives, and or, a lot of information through your PCI slots. at some poi...

my 828 mkII is off getting modded as we speak. my brain came to the conclusion. that A. better opamps do just sound better. and B. if i take a 1k$ pre, and run it into the analog ins of the 828, then the slow opamps slur the attack of the sound. wtf did i spend 1k on preamp for? i still don't plan o...

agreed.. 24/44.1 24/88.2 if i want to capture something archivaly.. [that was analog] Always 24/44.1 for album work. No sense puttting the audio through some lossy conversion when I'm only gaining about a semitone of higher fidelity in the inaudible range  (between 44.1 and 48 ) Above that, the...

i've found that the mp4 or h.264 [or other h.XXX codecs] made from a uncompressed quicktime the way to go. you get pretty good video, and super small file size, so you'll probably never choke on it.. [400 x 300 is what i prefer] though i guess you could keep it at 720 x 486.. maybe run it off anothe...

Re: Adding "Something" to Drum Tracks
well, it could just be the performace.. maybe the drummer was lakcing the attitude. but, totaly saturate and compress a version and mix with original to taste. or some sansamp mixed in with the original can do all kinds of good. but i dunno what your going for so.. hard to say. couldn't hurnt to try...

Re: Help with "the Strokes" sound
they run the vocals through a guitar amp. tweak amp to taste.
they probably use some vintage tube amp i would bet.
