New MOTU Audio Interface

Post by glmusic »

Just saw a new add on the back of this months EM with a new half-rack version of the 828 MKII. Nice. Very compact and I would assume affordable as well. I believe they are calling it the "Ultra Lite" or something to that effect. 10 in, 12 out, SPDIF, MIDI, two pres, same monitoring LCD as the 828 MKII, lots of control knobs for volume and parameters, can be used in stand alone mixing mode, etc. No price given, but I bet it will go street for around 399.00-499.00.

Nothing about this unit at MOTU's Web site. Pity.

Yep, saw the same thing, went to MOTU's site - and nada! So they're cutting back on HTML programmers too? ;) Anyway, looks pretty neat. I'm wondering if they are going to come out with any PCI-Express hardware. I was looking into the Quad G5 and realized I couldn't use 2408mk3 with it... The 2408mk3 has been a rock solid performer with my G4's and Dual 2.5 G5. Parting with it now would be bad karma!

I wonder what this means for the 828mkII? They seem to have similar specs despite a pretty big gap in the street price.

It appears that the new unit doesn't have the ADAT i/o or word clock i/o. That's a pretty significant difference.

Yeah, I almost had a complete freak out and thought that I eff'd up until I realized that. I just bought an M-Audio FW18/14 to use while my 2.5 yr old 828mkii goes back to MOTU for repair. I'm only using the 18/14's ADAT input to get my Digimax into my Powerbook and G5.

No UltraLite for me. Wish that it had ADAT.

could be a good cheap way to expand your in's and outs though.
have a main 828, for adats or word clock. then some of these lite's slaved to that. 1k later and you have 30 analog outs [24 ins].. not to shabby.
could really mix/sum outside the box verse using group outs..

I just ordered one this morning from Sweetwater. Their expected date to receive the units is April 1. I bet Motu is waiting till the Musikmesse to announce.
