You would want to fill all 4 slots in the bank with identical DIMMs - this will allow for 256 bit wide channels. Check the "Activity Monitor" panel is OS X, if the memory "page outs" start climbing to 100,000 or higher, you probably need more RAM. Read up on 8-core Mac Pro's and ...

FA: Mint MOTU 2408mk3 w/ PCI-424 Card (PCI-X)

I'm downsizing my studio and all I need is a simple 2 in / 2 out set up now, so this big boy is up for auction. Mint condition and works beautifully. I've been very, very happy with its performance and have been very hesitant to sell it. The PCI-424 card is only 6 months old. I was eligible for a fr...

FA: MachFive for Mac

Downsizing the studio and I'm not using MachFive at all. It was purchased earlier this year at Guitar Center. The receipt will be included and the warranty card is blank, so you should be able to upgrade without any problems is MOTU charges for 2.0. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&...

The pedal that came with the RD700SX is continuous and some of the patches seem to have been programmed that way. It's a real fine line and hard to tell much difference. On a real piano the weight or force required provides some feedback, and of course the sound does too. The continuous pedal don't ...

The pedal isn't dirty yet - it's new! :) And I've got 2 others, tried them all and got the same stream of data. The RD700SX has 3 foot pedal jacks - a damper & 2 assignable jacks. I've tried all three jacks (all assigned controller #64) and the same data stream is generated from all three. I thi...

Sustain Pedal Producing Lots of Data - Help...

I'm trying get a Roland RD700SX set-up with DP 4.61. I have all the pedal jacks configured to Controller 64 (Hold-1). The pedal works in each jack, but it's sending more than the simple on/off message. I tried different pedals and they all do the same thing, so I know the pedal is okay. Here's a scr...

New OS-X Audio Hardware Drivers Available

MOTU has gone with a universal installer set-up. There is a PCI 1.09 update for the 424 PCI-X card. I suggest uninstalling your 1.08 drivers first (run the 1.08 installer package and select "Uninstall"). The new installer added a CueMix, SMPTE and PCI Hardware Setup App. So those were ther...

Try a reinstall

I suspect a reinstall will cure the problem. Certainly your cheapest option. If you plan to keep the G4 for awhile - feed it some RAM! RAM is cheap for those old machines and a GB would improve the machine's performance. Another very cheap upgrade would be a 5400 RPM HD to 7200 RPM HD. And a nice 64...

Here's a quote from the EQ magazine review of the very first G5 dual 2.0 (Jan 2004 issue): "I instantiated 20 no-latency stereo Altiverbs in one session and was still using less than 50% of the available CPU power." Also: "Running DP with Mach 5 and Stylus, Atmosphere, and Trilogy us...

8 GB Ram upgrade worth it???

There is already 4.5 GB in the Dual G5 2.5 GHz and I'm wondering if maxing it out to 8 GB would make any improvement. Mach5 is the only VI right now - and puts a considerable load on the system (keeps the CPU bubbling at 30-40%). The buffer is set at 128 on the PCI-424; I know that's small but 256 h...

Yamaha Motif ES8 keeps spewing SYSEX data... make it stop!!

I have no idea where this is coming from: f0 00 00 33 02 50 00 08 0C 0B 07 04 00 00 00 00 00 00 00 01 F7 The Yamaha Motif ES8 just keeps spitting it out over MIDI out and it is in every recorded track (using Digital Performer). It does it non-stop - even when the keyboard is sitting idle. The MIDI i...

The 2.7 runs pretty hot. I've read that it's just an over-clocked Dual 2.5 (which I have). One thing i don't like about the liquid cooled mac's is the fan revving. Just moving the mouse across the dock can cause the fan to rev. To stop the fan revving I run the 2.5 in "reduced" mode. Kind ...

I can vouch for the PCI-424 efficiency. I've been using a Audiophile 2496 card in the Dual 2.5 G5. Finally got off my lazy ass and did the PCI-424 swap with MOTU - which went very, very smoothly. Got the 2408mk3 system installed on the G5 and the CPU load from Mach5 has dropped by 50%! I'm usually r...
