Yes I use the 4 pin fire wire port. With an simple •‚¬ 10,- ($ 8,-) 6 to 4 pin cable. Works great! I once used the PCMCIA slot with for wireless internet but it crashed every 5 minutes. I use two daisychained 828mkii's and have a 8pre for recording rehersals en other small things. Both on a Jewel laptop. Don't know which chipset is in their but both work just fine. Looking at the pics It look like the tom mic's will pick up a lot of snare. It's strange that it will lock on 44.1 and not on 48 Maybe it's wiser to take it back to the store and let them test it. Let them test is with a proper SPdif cable.
