8pre and 828mk2

Post by poprep »

i keep on hearing problems with the 828mk2. but not too much with the 8pre. is the 8pre more stable with windows? i currently have the dell inspiron 6400, it doesn't have ti chipset in the firewire. it has ricoh chipset.
so, is it the 828mk2 for me or the 8pre? anybody have the same laptop with me to tell a success/horrifying story to me before i buy a unit?

I use two daisychained 828mkii's and have a 8pre for recording rehersals en other small things.
Both on a Jewel laptop.
Don't know which chipset is in their but both work just fine.
Recorded a max of 24 channels 24bit/48kHz no problems.
Now with the 8 pre I'm looking forward the enlarge the max and see howfar I can push it before running into problems.

So no ghost stories. sorry

I haven't used the 8pre with an 828mkII but i've heard it is stable. I own an 8pre and it has possibly been the most reliable piece of hardware i have ever used! Not one problem with it from the start.

It's a very usefull setup.

The most used setup would be
828 as main unit and the 8 pre as ADAT converter.

keep in mind to use two ADAT cables, cause the 8pre sync on the in-port.

Yes I use the 4 pin fire wire port.
With an simple •‚¬ 10,- ($ 8,-) 6 to 4 pin cable.
Works great!

I once used the PCMCIA slot with for wireless internet but it crashed every 5 minutes. Don't know if that was the laptop's or the card's fault but i'm not so keen on using it anymore.

Let us know how your setup turns out.
