I've been extremely impressed demoing the Pro-C. While I don't think it can take the award for best sound, I do think it can for best tool. I don't know if its the new way it monitors but I can always get the compression I was looking for. A lot of other compressors that might sound better I spend s...

Compatibility is a whole other story, I yearn for complete compatiblity, ala photoshop in the ...photo manipulation world, but I'd be nervous of the control and lack of inovation that that could spur in the music world... Hmmm... I have to think about that one. Isn't it possible that if there were ...

Hell, I might even pick up LE for giggles. I was a big fan of Studio Vision, especially for MIDI. Its always good to know another/own another daw, if just for a new way of thinking, IMO. I have a love/hate things for digi and MOTU and they are sort of inversed. I love pro tools, the software for me...

+1 for whoever mentioned being able to select tracks in the mixer window...

also another to add to the list is more usability in the sequence window. I'd like to be able to do everything I can do in the tracks window in the sequence window too.

It doesn't look like it has ECC, which apparently mac pros need. I wouldn't try it, but you should and report back. :)

[edit] just check some other sites and most of the non-ecc ram is going for about that price.[edit]

yeah,

sufjan steven's records are made mostly recorded on an 8-track roland digital recorder, don't know exactly which model, and I think they sound amazing. It inspires me to be a better engineer with what I have, rather than worrying about buying ridiculously expensive gear.

4. Don't even include LE. That just gets silly. Every time I read some local yokel recording studio ad and they're touting ProTools, it always ends up being LE, and then I laugh. I'll grant you a TDM system, by virtue of it's hardware DSP, has advantages over DP... but you can't compare a PT LE sys...

er... i just noticed something really strange, first if I import or just drag into the soundbites window the files remain aiff, and any mono tracks that I drag to the tracks window still remain as aiff files and play fine. I thought dp didn't support aiff at all, did something change in version 5?

they are already named that way. I have a few pairs of mono audio files bounced down that I want to bring into dp. I want them on a stereo track so I can use 1 plugin for the 1 stereo file but when I import them I have to do it individually and they come as mono files.

gearboy wrote:Why Pro Tools for Rock Stuff?

I use DP for electronic, rock, folk, movie ADR work, movie mixing...
I like recording audio in pro tools, the workflow suites my style better. Plus I can edit audio much faster in pro tools.

I really do both in both though.

What type of music do you compose/produce with DP?

Lets be pretty general here ie: Rock Folk Metal Pop Electronic Trance Hip Hop Rap Classical or if you just use it for production (don't compose yourself just use it at your studio) I use it for mainly Electronic and Classical. Have used it for Rock/Folk but mainly use Pro Tools for that and stick wi...

I use ns_kit7 from www.naturalstudio.co.uk

best samples I've ever heard. Best end result I've ever gotten from drum samples. Plus its around $100 and it comes with a fantastic brushed kit. The catch would be that you need kontakt or halion to run them.
