Well, if I go to 10.4, keep the 2 x 828s and add a pair of Octopre's I should end up with 20 ins. And I'm still using Logic 6.4.3. Anyone foresee any problems? Nanobots Hi Nanobots I can't comment on the Logic part, but assuming you're free to assign any audio interface output or input that belongs...

Thanks for the help guys but unfortunately I believe aggregating is only possible in Logic 8 - for which i'd need to buy a new mac. Also, I've always thought there was a loss of quality when 2 units were linked by lightpipe. I mean, it's not like I'm trying to do anything I shouldn't be able to. Th...

Hi Nanobots, I have two 828mkII's which are grouped as an aggregate device as mentioned above. It works real smooth with my Mac Pro. I also have a Focusrite Octopre LE with the digital option, and I use the ADAT optical connection to stream audio from this unit's 8 pre-amps to one of the MOTUs. Agai...

Absolutely, totally go for the Mac Pro. Also UA offer some kind of cross-grade if you buy PCI-e cards while owning PCI cards. At least they did when I switched earlier this year - it was a total surprise! Of course you can only spend it on their plug-ins but it is something to consider when budgetin...

Frankencow, I'm not sure aout the ADAT stuff but I have an RNC connected to an 828 and it's real simple - just connect outs from the 828 to the ins of the RNC, and vice versa. I use Cubase to then take care of inserting this into a channel. One really important part - you cannot use TRS cables. Chec...

Re: MacPro 2.66 vs 3.0 - Any suggestions?
I'm planning on taking the MacPro plunge and am trying to decide between the 2.66 and 3.0. I'll be using it exclusively with DP 5.x and Apogee Symphony system. The only differences I can find between the 2 macs is: 1. 3.6mhz increase in speed 2. L2 backside cache is 8mb instead of 4mb 3. Oh, and th...

Re: synchronizing 2 mk828II
Hi, Shouldn't a word clock (or spdif/adat) cable be used when synchronizing two 828? Probably a stupid question: but if 828mkII #1 clock sets to "internal", should 828mkII #2 clock be set to external/device/mk#1 or what...? Do You also need to choose #1 (or whatever choosed to be master/i...

Thanks for the response. Well I may sound a bit dumb here, but we are talking about the original 828's and not the mkII's, right? And I have no idea what is meant by aggregate device :?: the sync process itself, is it word clock or SPDIF, or what? Sorry about all the newbie questions, I'm just real...

Re: Can I use 2 828's simultaneously?
Hi, can anyone tell me if it's possible to chain 2 MOTU 828's together to double the available ins and outs ? For some reason I can't seem to find any info on wether this is possible or not anywhere. :?: Thanks. /Papajuju Absolutely! I achieved this by creating an aggregate device, and setting the ...

Maxleii, I've got 2 UAD-1s, a Firewire Powercore running on a VIA6306 chipset, and 2xMOTU 828 mkIIs running on a TI chipset. Works fine for me although I had to go back to the SP1 versions of firewire drivers for XP when I added the second 828. I also believe it's true, there are no PDF manuals - th...

Rezin8 - many many thanks. I was struggling with 2 x 828mkIIs not synchronising but with your advice they are now working perfectly. Also I bought a VIA6306 based fw card for my PowerCore, to run it separately from the TI card with the 828s, now my rig is the most stable it has ever been. thanks aga...
