Monitor Mix Question
Most of the recording that I have done in my studio is just me recording...well...me. I've got a small session coming up in a few weeks that is going to require me to have to independent monitor mixes available. I'll be using DP5.11 and an 828mkii. Obviously I can just used the headphone jack on the front of my 828 for one of the mixes, but what is the best way to configure a second headphone mix. What hardware will I need to buy, and what is the most logical way to configure it?
Thanks for you help!

I would simply connect a small mixer, headphone amp (or hifi amp) to another pair of outputs on the 828, and then use sends from each channel in DP's mixer to these outputs. Choose prefade on these sends so that each mix is independent.

I know that some people have issues with Behringer, so without opening a can of worms, may I suggest the HA4700 four channel headphone amp. It has a street price of about $100 and while not the best sounding amp available, it does the job for cheap.

I'll second Phil's suggestion.
I've got the HA 4600, which is slightly older.
It may be a little brittle, but it's got cojones, man.

I think SOS did a review...jmoore wrote:What about the little headphone amps that Rolls makes? Anybody ever used one of those?
You mean from your music room to a bedroom or the lounge?jmoore wrote:Ideally I'd like to have something that can be easily routed to another room in the house (errrr....i mean studio).

FWIW, my music room shall remain so until it becomes a studio one day; at least that's the plan.

Thanks, Steven. I'll be sure to check that one out.steveninkster wrote:I can recommend the Presonus HP4 headphone amp - plenty of power. I'm using 4 driven by my MOTU 828 mkII!
Steven.
Everybody else, thanks for offering your 2 cents on this one. Monkey Man, your posts never fail to amuse me! And we can all use a little amusement every now and then. I wonder what it looks/sounds like inside your head. I'll bet it's scary...huh?

Hmm... I've had nerve trouble for 28 years; perhaps this explains it?
