Re: recording drums using 3 mics

thanks for all the advice. I definitely hear you about people trying to match world class recordings and not getting there in their home studio. I have definitely fallen into that trap before. I really just want a decent drum sound, not necessarily a Butch Vig drum mix. I play ambient / instrumental...

Re: recording drums using 3 mics

I used some of the techniques you guys suggested, and here's what I came up with: http://www.paleamberglow.com/mp3s/drums.wav I used the Rode NT5 condensers as "room" mics.. I put them in an X/Y pattern in front of and facing away from the drumkit, the height of the mics was a little bit l...

Re: recording drums using 3 mics

Thanks for the tips... do you "time-align" your room mic tracks with your close mic tracks?

recording drums using 3 mics

i am going to attempt recording drums this week with a 3 mic setup - 2 Rode NT5 condensers set up as room mic's, and one audix d6 on the kick. I am trying to capture more of the sound of the room... Has anyone here tried a setup like this with good results? How far back did you place the room mics, ...

mixing drums - parallel bussing

I am running DP 5 and am a novice recording / mixing engineer. I am in the process of mixing my first real record (my music) and have been having a hell of a time getting the drums to sound how I want. I have been reading about parallel bussing the drums to create a much thicker sound, but I am not ...

nevermind... i found a better way to do this by just bussing the instruments to an audio track and recording them to that track.

maybe I can make this simpler by asking,

is v1.01 the latest firmware for the 828mkII ?

and

is the firmware a user-updateable thing?

828mkII FW - firmware upgrade?

Hi,
I'm just wondering if it's possible to update the firmware on the 828mkII ? when my unit boots up I see "v1.01" . I downloaded all the latest drivers from motu.com but i'm wondering if i need to update this too? If so, how do I do it? thanks!

the Adaptec Fireconnect 4300 uses the TI Chipset, as well.
It is what I use, I checked into it to make sure it uses TI after experiencing problems w/ my 828mkII

high pitched squeals / noises w/ 828mkII used as a mixer?

i have been experiencing high pitched noises and static sounds coming from my 828mkII in 2 situations. The first is when I exit one DAW program and enter another. This happens even when I am using the same sample rate in both programs. Even more peculiar is that the other situation when I hear these...
