I'm a little confused. Are you saying get the Rosetta for the best converters, but buy an otherwise-redundant audio i/o from MOTU or someone else, to get the audio into the computer via ADAT and the other unit's Firewire (e.g.)? I don't own a Rosetta, but I can't imagine that it has a better real-t...

digital performer and guitar rig
clibertino, I've tried doing the same on my PB G4 (only 1.25GB RAM). It was a while ago, but I can recall it being like sludge. It wasn't useful to do real time recording or monitoring of GR as a plug-in. It didn't matter that I had an external firewire drive either. I think I was able to do a littl...

I'm using a dual G5 and a dual G4 for standalone V.I.s. But someone on this forum mentioned (if I understood correctly) that when using this set up you'll experience latency from your main computer added with the latency from your standalone computer. So even with low buffer settings there is a lot...

I'll just keep mentioning this: There is absolutely no way, ever to have a button that will time-offset complex, non-symetrical waveforms by exactly 180 degrees. The idea doesn't make sense. What everyone is talking about (as well as MOTU and others have mislabeled) is POLARITY inversion. Polarity ...

Re: DP 4 Kicks Me Out In New Imac G5 With Intel Processors
Has anyone had a problem with using Digital Performer version 4 on the new Imac G5s with the new Intel Processors? Nitpicking here, but there's no such thing as an iMac G5 with an Intel processor. G5 refers to the PowerPC CPU inside. The PowerPC lineage (G3, G4, G5) is on its way out. Your new iMac...

I don't think Dashboard on or off helps much In the same MacWorld article where they described how to turn off dashboard, it stated that each dashboard widget occupies about 5MB of RAM. You can check the actual amount with the Activity Monitor. I don't recall if they stated how much RAM just the da...

Yeah, on Plugorama.com they seem to have a good selection of plugins. Seems more focused on virtual instruments than effects. It's good to see that Guitar Rig has been added to the list. I've been trying to get my guitarist to look into adding that to his setup. Maybe I'll check in on the Receptor f...

The uniwire thing is cool, but I've always been a bit confused by the Receptor. From what I understand, you can only install plugins on the Receptor from vendors that play nice with Muse Research. And that's nowhere near the percentage of plugins that they claim work with it. What's up with that? I ...

Re: Always have to nudge audio! Why?
Thanks TheHopiWay! I will try what you've suggested. Re: your rant... In my experience, having some classical training increases awareness of tempo and rhythm. Unless you have someone point it out to you, it's easy for it to take a back seat to "playing all of the right notes." Unfortunate...

Re: Always have to nudge audio! Why?
You're right, guitar players are usually very eager!
Anyways, it's not musician specific... it happens with vocals, git, bass, etc. I can select the entire soundbite and shift it over 2-3 nudges to line it up with the rest of the tracks (I'm using the default nudge length in DP).

Re: Always have to nudge audio! Why?
Hmm, I thought I was supposed to be notified when I received replies. Oh well. I'm running DP 4.62 on a Powerbook (1.25GHz, 1.25GB RAM, OSX 10.4.2); audio going to a firewire drive (7200RPM); interface is a 828MKII. I have some of the accompaniment tracks running through plug-ins, but the guitar I'm...

Always have to nudge audio! Why?
Hello there, I would appreciate any advice on this problem I'm having. When I lay down some guitar audio over previously recorded drumtracks, the tracks don't line up in time during playback. I always have to nudge the last soundbite(s) "later" (increase) by a bit to get everything in time...
