do I need a clock
Sorry if this sounds stupid, but should I be running a master clock with my set up. I'm currently using the Panasonic DA7 digital mixing board with the motu 2408 mkII. I'm using the ADAT optical to send out 8 channels from the board to the 2408. I only have one MIDI keyboard and use the motu fastlane. I recently upgraded to the pci 424 card and have since, been experiencing a lot of spikes and processor strain and was wondering if my clock situation might be responsible?

Not supid to ask this at all. If you want the real skinny on clocking, check out the latest edition of TapeOP magazine #51 (free from their website). They interview Lucas van der Mee from Apogee and he fully explains the deal. Bottom line to your question is YES you need a clock. Even if all you do is choose one of your current pieces of gear and make it your master clock, chain everything else to it. My Apogee Big Ben is the best investment I have ever made in any one piece of gear. I'd sing into a SM 57 into a perfectly clocked digital recorder before I'd want to sing into a "Neumanomanleyfunkengefell" with an unclocked digital recorder. It makes that much diffrence IMO.
