Mackie Hui is it still worth buying ?

Post by Patricio »

Hope some of you can give me some advice...possibly i could get a Mackie Hui , for use with DP 4.6.1.

my question, is it worth buying or do i have to look at more up to date controllers ?

thanks...

IMHO, no it's not worth it..... why? The Mackie Control has plenty of features and can be expanded beyong the 8-faders. Although the HUI does feel good, has meters, and some other features.... but I'll take more faders any day :-)
Thank you,

If you can get one cheap (like 400 bucks or so) Yes it is worth it.....

MCU may have more controls, but it costs more (used).....I have a MCU system (see my sig below) and it works wonderfully. I also have another studio and a HUI is on that list.

It has monitor routing & control and a talkback mike, something the MCU is lacking.....I supplement with a Central Station, but I wish the MCU had a talkback mike and button built in....Like The HUI

Giles117 and BradLyons, thanks very much for you clear answers.

Today i read Chapter 11 of the big Motu book (pages 901 and 937)
Checked also the Mackie Control and see the advantage this unit over the Mackie Hui.
Also in the shop i saw today a Tascam US2400 which looks handy also..
any thoughts on that ?

Hopefully Motu will come with a similar device...
as for the Mackie Hui i will pass......i don't think the guy will except a 400/500 euro offer. These unit were pretty expensive in those days..

thanks..love this forum.

I recall paying 2300 for mine back in 1998.

I prefer the MCU over the Tascam any day of the week. Something called LCD Display......

Now theres something I would love to see.......... MOTU making thier own control surface and manage to keep it at the same price point of the MCU.
