I finally broke down and turned my old 1.7 Ghz Dell into a giga sampler. (although I did NOT WANT TO INCLUDE WINDOWS IN MY STUDIO AGAIN!)billf wrote:
I'll believe it when I see it.
I'm SOOOOOO impressed with the CPU friendly environment!!! I've been waiting for M5v.2 for so long. I wish I would have spent the $400 to get my old PC up and running a year ago!! Now I have a complete orchestra at my fingertips, with LOW latency, and key-switched samples for each instrument and section using pretty old technology. I'm using some medium-weight samples, but it's a complete orchestra. From what I'm gathering now, if I were to buy a current $800 PC, put a $350 audio card in it (ADAT I/O) and Giga Ensemble ($250 cross-grade), I'd have about FOUR TIMES the 'orchestral power' that I'd have using sample play-back devices within DP on my 2x2 4.5 gig!!! FOUR TIMES!!!!
I am still interested in Mach V v.2 though. Since my PC isn't the most powerful, I'll be able to use unused CPU power on my G5 to run the important solo instruments and other misc stuff that isn't in my default giga orchestra. V.1 doesn't translate my key switches, so I could really use V.2
ANOTHER HUGE benefit is that now when I load up different cues (I haven't found a good way to use Chunks and the virtual Rack yet for a complete movie project) I don't have to wait FOREVER to load all the samples in my EW Gold, GPO, and other sample playback devices since I'll be able to use my default Giga orchestra to fill 80% of the sounds.
I'll stop now.
And let's get V2!!!!!

richard, chunks for scoring is great.
i posted a while back about my adventures using chunks.

i can't imagine scoring any other way. maybe you'll give chunks another look.

I've tried it and it works for me, but not very well. I was finding that with the Vrack, I'd have to take numerous extra steps to get virtual instruments set up and bounced.... and also that I'd push the limits on my CPU when I needed to add VIs for specific cues only, but they would remain memory resident for the rest of the cues.homebilly wrote:richard, chunks for scoring is great.

Since I've started using Giga, I haven't tried chunks (actually, I tried having multiple sequences for a given movie project... is there a way to use chunks that are different than just multiple sequences?) I'll probably give it another try though.... There's also issues with automation with VRack synths right?

I believe you'll find that:miffed wrote:Hi,
Anyone heard if the M5 v2 will come out simultaneously on Mac and PC, or will the PC version be way behind (as has been the case before) ?
Cheers
a. No one knows when v 2.0 will be released, and
b. As a result, no one knows if there will be staggered releases between platforms.
