Same track, different attack?

Post by Seattle Pete »

Hi all.

I just bought MSI and I'm loving the sounds. I'm also new to composing with more-professional instrument VIs (I just used Reason NN-XT presets before).

I'd like to know how to write one track of MIDI for one instrument (and thus have one line of notation), but be able to change the playing technique / articulation during the piece. For example, I'd like to be able to switch between "sus" and "marc" presets for a solo violin.

I've heard of key-switching and related techniques to accomplish this, but I can't find info in the DP manual or the MSI manual. Any suggestions / tips / basics?

Thanks in advance!

Hey pete.

Use MSI's expert mode for this. It wasn't mentioned in the manual, rather on a separate bit of paper in the box, so I can understand if you havn't seen it.

You'll find key switching there.

MSI keyswitching

Check out the "MSI Read Me First!" PDF on the installer CD -- it covers the basic idea of the key switching feature, and some other stuff not covered in the manual.

Thanks. I'll look in both places.
