Yay! a 'what's the best...' question! > headphones for li

Just wondering if anyone has a recommendation for headphones for live (onstage) use.

Currently use DT150 (the black ones) for studio and live and they rock for isolatio, VOLUME! and overall indestructability but are a bit on the ..er... large/heavy side especially as I use them for following click/backing tracks while playing a drum kit!

So I'm looking for something lighter that can be driven hard and LOUD (as I always wear ear plugs as well underneath) I don't mind the h/phones being driven to distortion (within reason) as long as they can take it.

I'm too scared (and probably too poor) to try in-ear monitoring as I'm worried about hearing damage esp if I get 'budget' ones. But any info/experience shared on in-ear monitoring also welcome.

ta!

I used to wear earplugs under my headphones as well until I bought the Vic Firth isolation headphones!

They are basically gun range style ear protection with speakers in them.

I no longer wear earplugs underneath and can keep the volume levels down since they block out as much sound as wearing earplugs.

I also had problems with click bleed while I was tracking because I had to have the click up so loud due to the earplugs. The VF headphones have solved that.

They are great!

Thanks snicka - will check them out.

Yes, click bleed is a pain sometimes...

I've been using the Shure e3's for a year now and I highly recommend them, or the models above (e4, e5). I got mine for $130. I'm a drummer who plays with a click/sequencer for about 1/3 of our songs. It basically kills two birds with one stone. You have isolation and protection. Plus, they're so light and compact that you'll forget you're wearing them after you get used to them. Can't imagine going back to phones.
