Powerbook and software synths

Post by fishingdog »

Sorry, but the answer might already been available on this forum, but I would like to know what kind of software synths would work on a PB 15", 1.25Ghz, 1GBRAM.

I heard of a friend who installed NI Electronic Instruments 2XT. He could heardly make any of the software synths work smoothly without draining the CPU.

My question is what software synths would work "normally", under the limited G4 1.25GHz processor on a PB? What is your experience?

Hey Fishingdog,

I have the following setup listed below. I just completed a rock demo for a female vocalist using DP 4.52 and SampleTank 2XL (Before I got MachFive). Most of the time a had 8-10 MIDI Tracks, 4-8 Audio Track of vocals, and effects.

I know you asked about the 1.25 GHz Processor, however I wanted to give you an example of what I can do on my 667 Mhz TiBook.

NI Electronic Instruments 2XT seem like pretty greedy beasts. I've tried limited versions of limelite and Metaphysical Function on my 1 ghz alubook and the latter draws 60% of my cpu. I regularly work with Absynth, Stylus RMX, Albino, Kontakt 1.5 (just to name a few) with DP and when I'm on the edge with the cpu, I bounce to disk. I guess a G5 would give me more power but all those wonderful instruments and their crazy sounds come at a price, even with a G5.
