DP 4.6 with a Behringer BCF2000 Control Surface

Post by sushiboy »

Good morning everyone from a dreary, rainy London.

I've only just discovered this forum, and this is my first post. Apologies in advance for its length...

My question is simple: can anyone help me get a Behringer BCF2000 working with DP?

I've been using DP for what must be the best part of 10 years. However - and some might find this surprising - I've only over the past 6 months migrated to OSX, so I'm currently finding my way around a new OS, and what seems to be a pretty big jump from DP 3.1.1 to 4.6.

I tend to use Cubase SX for composing/MIDI work (it seems happier with the virtual instrument plug-ins I like to use) and DP for audio and mixing. The Behringer BCF2000 works like a dream in Cubase (emulating the Mackie Control Surface mode), but I can't get ANY action out of it at all with DP.

Here's what I've done so far:

1. Plugged the BCF into a USB port on the Mac and switched it on in "Baby Huie" mode.

2. Opened Audio MIDI Set-up and created a new event which I called BCF2000.

3. Opened up MIDI monitor and moved a few faders on the BCF to check that it registered a MIDI signal, which it did.

4. Opened Control Surface Setup and set this to HUI and then on the same window under MIDI I selected BCF2000 (presumably the one I set up in audio MIDI setup.

I imagined that now if I opened the mixer window it would all work nicely. But it didn't.

Can anyone can tell me if I'm missing a really fundamental step here? I'm really hoping I'm just making some stupid oversight. (That said, although I'm a pretty experienced DP user, I've never tried to do anything like this before.)

In the past I've only found MOTU helpful when dealing specifically with MOTU problems, and - frankly - a bit hopeless and unwilling when third-party products are involved. So any help anyone can give will be gratefully accepted.

All the best

Terry

What is the firmware level of the BCF2000? It should be the first number display at power up. If not 1.10, update the firmware. You can find it with instructions on the Behringer site under downloads on the BCF product page. Good luck.

It's 1.0.7, so I'll have a go at updating the firmware.

Thanks for that.

Create a HUI in AMS

Post by Jaime Lunn »

As the HUI does not have a USB input it will not work unless you create a HUI in AMS(Audio MIDI Setup) and connect it to the Behringer ports in AMS.

Then it will work

Here is what worked for me:

In Audio/MIDI Setup, the BCF should show up as a MIDI device. Create another device and give it a slightly different name (BCF2k or similar). Connect the real BCF to the device you just created in Audio/MIDI Setup (in to out, out to in).

Quit A/M Setup. In DP open the control surface setup dialog and choose HUI in the first popup. In the second popup, select your device (BCF).

Set the BCF to Baby HUI mode (check the BCF manual on how to do this). You should be in business now. I think that's all - It's been a while since I set mine up, but it's been working flawlessly since.

Yes, I DO own a Behringer product.

I only post this because.....
Knowledge is a good thing. For those who don't know about Behringer, now U do.
Behringer is the ultimate ripoff artist. And successful at it to boot.

Right or wrong is not my job, I'm just letting the facts be ...
Well, the facts.

Almost similar shoes here almost -- Been mostly a wintel user the past couple of decades and an OSX user just over one year now...

THIS one threw me the longest...

Spent almost forever hunting for what tabbed field to go update -- Didn't realize until late last night it was as simple as drawing "from here to there"

One of them thar Eureka moments... :D
