Mouse modifiers

Greetings.

New to DP, learning much and loving it! I work with MIDI & VIs most of the time, and being a CAD guy at work catch myself wanting to hold down the middle mouse button to pan the MIDI window instead of holding down the 'H' key. Since the MMB hold-down action isn't assigned to anything, is there a setting somewhere to assign this to pan?

Hi Brian, not a Windows user, but isn't there an application specific mouse assignment type functionality in Windows? On mac there's a couple third party apps that allow you to assign any key combination to any button on a mouse. If so that's the simple solution, I would not be surprised if there wasn't support for three button mice on Windows since I've never seen anything like it on Mac, but that doesn't mean you can't use the button.

A quick search shows X-Mouse Button Control, and it's free. This way when in DP the middle button can be set to h. Some windows users might have some other preference, but this is your solution.

Many DP functions (e.g., vertical & horizontal scrolling, slow & fast forward & backward cueing, zooming in/out, etc) are available in commands and can have various key-stroke combinations assigned. The second aspect is whether and how various keystrokes/combinations can be added to mouse buttons and even wheel movements.

I think some mouse driver software allows you to create conditions so that certain keystrokes will be generated by the mouse buttons only when a particular application is "up front" (i.e., DP).

I've used a Logitech mouse (with either it's drivers that allow for the 7 odd buttons on them to be assigned to key commands, or third party apps like Stearmouse or USB Overdrive on Mac etc.) for at least 20 years now.

I have a Logitech G502 mouse which has 10 buttons, including the wheel which has a regular roll forward/backward, as well as a press-forward/press-backward. IIRC, it has decent config software-- which I had to use to turn off the ridiculous LED light show. The rest, I could configure in Steermouse.

I confess, I haven't gone as far as I can with making my use of the mouse most efficient, but it does make life easier.

A couple weeks ago I did a remote recording session, and had to postpone 40 minutes to drive home and get my mouse which I'd forgotten. Even if it didn't save me 40 minutes in work time, it made the job that much more pleasant.

Steermouse is Mac only. There are some Windows alternatives although none have its full functionality.

Brian, what mouse are you using? Does it have any software (like a config window) that allows for any bells & whistles?
