Is ASIO MOTU Gen 5 the only way to get more than 2 channel audio out of Windows 11?

Post by Rob Ainscough »

Doing some 6 channel audio testing in Cubase 14. I'm not doing ATMOS or and DTS or other multi-channel streams for final out, this is just for raw output from DAW where tracks are assigned various audio channels.

I have all the audio channels configured in Cubase using ASIO Motu Gen 5. So not using WDM/WASAPI ... however, why doesn't Windows 11 provide a "native" multi-channel driver? I seem limited to just 2 channel that Win11 will operate with or is this a limited of MOTU support for Win11 native?

I know with other much less expensive sound cards, the "speaker configuration" option is available to select from ... not such option for any of the MOTU streams?

Thoughts, Rob.
