questions about updating

Post by kassonica »

HI all, it's been a while eh, the cat is back, Hope everyone has been doing just dandy, I've been very creative of late.. :)

A couple of questions re updating.

now on my tower I'm still using DP7, I know I know, but it just works for me, I bought DP9 and had it installed on my old laptop, which sadly passed away over a year ago, I used it mainly for location recording, now my new laptop runs ventura 13.5.2, which I found out yesterday will not accept DP9 :(

so logging into my motu account I see DP 11 is the only version that will install on my current operating system, but I notice now there is DP lite, as I only will use DP on my laptop for Audio, will that be fine and is it backwards compatible with DP 7.

what is the cost from going to DP 9 to 11 or DP lite?

Much thanks in advance and so glad this forum still exists

Welcome back Kotter.

I think you’ll find that Lite won’t be able to deal with your older projects of any complexity due to limitations on track and channel counts.

As for updates from 9 to 11, it’s the usual upgrade price, and the learning curve is very short. There are lot of new doodads you probably don’t need if you’ve been happy with V7, but for the most part, it will all be familiar.

There might even be a way to get DP9 installed under Ventura using Migration Assistant or some other scheme.

Maybe Mike will chime in on this...

That said, I do love DP11. Best version ever.

Welcome back Brother Mark!

Hope you're OK bud.

Nothing to add to what the boys said. Still on DP8.07 in High Sierra and it's not even installed.

There are reports that DP 9.52 might run over Ventura. The installer is incompatible by all accounts so the only way to try is via Migration Assistant from a Mac running it or a Time Machine backup. Any 3rd party 32bit only plug-ins will not work but that’s been true since Catalina. The additional features in DP 11 make it well worth the upgrade, IMO.

MOTU’s $195 upgrade price for Digital Performer is the same no matter what the old version is.

Performer Lite is free if you qualify by owning any MOTU audio or MIDI hardware. Track restrictions are 16 each, Audio, MIDI and AUX. Among the many missing features is that there is no WaveForm Editor. You cannot save User Templates but there’s a kludge for that. The biggest frustration, IMO, is that many windows are in different locations than they are in DP. If you’ve never used a DAW before, PL is a good start but I can’t recommend it to a DP user. I collaborate with a number of PL users and don’t care for it at all.
