step by step freezing tracks
When I freeze tracks I create a new aux or inst track select that and the MIDI track, and freeze, then I can hear and see the track being processed with the freeze bar. All looks like it is going according to plan, then voila no audio. What am I doing wrong.

this is how I do it:cornwinder wrote:I will highlight the data in the MIDI track as well as light up the boxes for track1 and the inst track now do I also highlight the empty region for the inst track also? Thanks for sticking with me on this.
1. drag a range selection (where one would drag the left and right locators)
2. this selects all the tracks..
3.then click first on the MIDI track (this selects the portion that you want to freeze)
4. then shift click the instrument track you then want to freeze (it will select the same range of the instrument track.)
5. finally audio>freeze selected tracks
hopefully this should work!

One tip (submitted to the tip sheet, but never included) : Often the freeze track will be recorded out of view at the bottom of the SE. In 4.5+ you can use the scroll wheel on your mouse to scroll the, otherwise locked-out, page down to see if audio is making it to the freeze track. If it's not you can abort (and figure out what's wrong). A real time saver on longer errant freezes.

Freezing tracks
Well it happened Thanks in large part to this board and SdFalk, I have frozen a track and printed it to audio. I think it was a driver update issue
because when I was in 4.12 when I created an inst track I never got the option of the DLS to put as the output that made all the difference. So I took all the advice and made it work. This is a huge moment, it means I can now explore VI software and get back to making music. I was ready to go back to a wollensak. Thanks Sdfalk you helped me appease the ghost in the machine.
