Mixer: meters next to faders not working

Post by philbrown »

I have a weird issue on DP 11.21. I work on two kinds of projects these days: my day gig - editing spoken word seminars and music projects for my band. On the seminar projects, everything works correctly, but on my music projects most of the meters next to the faders show no signal even when playing back active audio tracks. What's really strange is one track does show signal while the rest don't show any.

Also experiencing a lot of crashes lately, too. Any ideas on what's going on?

I had that happen in DP 10. It turned out to be operator error but, for the life of me, I can’t recall what I did to cause it and undid to fix it.

I will recommend that you start DP in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key—the Audio Engine won’t load but that’s ok. After it fires up, quit and restart. This is an old Stupid Mac trick that rebuilds paths. Whenever DP starts crashing on me, I find that this helps.

On occasion, I have experienced this, too, on a variety of different DP versions IIRC.

A re-start restores normal operation for me.

Thanks, guys. Mike - I'll try the safe boot trick for sure. Re-starts definitely aren't fixing it.

I really (reluctantly) feel like I need to really clean up my plug-ins, delete outdated unused ones, update the others, trash DP prefs and do the cleanest DP re-install I can.

Not certain you have to go that far.

One thing that MOTU recommends since DP 10 is to create new templates and I agree. Open up a project or template, check all of your plug-ins to make certain that you have everything exactly as you want them (in my case, replacing RX7 with RX10 etc.), next Save as New Template and give it a new name (I just appended the year such as Choir 2022). Took a few minutes and really helped.

Also, Safe Boot does reset/restore the paths to your plug-ins. That may be why it works.
