Need some atmospheric stuff
I produce lots of Seal sounding tracks. However, I`ve been getting by with about 3 atmospheric sounds which was fine for my first CD. Now I`m looking to expand. So what are you using?
I would prefer to keep everything in the box. No keyboards. I know... blasphemy.
Thanks.

i love atmosphere.
it's been quite stable on my system and it can produce a huge range of sounds beyond the presets.
mind you though, i'm still on DP4.12 so i can't vouch for the newer versions.
also Tera and Cube are absolutely amazing, they are CPU hogs though.
cheers!

I would go with absynth 3, or Cronox 3 by linplug, both of them are amazingly good to make good atmosphere.
Atmosphere from spectrasonic is nice, but it is sample based, and the edition is quite very limited to compare with absynth and Cronox 3.

Check out the Korg Legacy Collection. The Wavestation has some awesome sounds.
Mac Studio m2 Max // OS 14.7// DP 11.34 // MotU Ultralite mk4 // Komplete Ultimate 15 // Arturia V Collection 9 // Korg Collection // Stylus RMX 1.8 // Omnisphere 2.6.2c // Scarbee Keys and Basses // T-Racks 5 Max // Amplitube 5 Max // BFD3 // Blue3 // PolyM //
As you can see, there are a multitude of opinions on this issue. I'd tell you that, if you consider yourself capable of manipulating many of DP native plugs (like delay, sonic modulator, flanger, chorus, pattern gate, ring modulator, phaser), all you really need thereafter is a VI with a broad selection of pads. Most synth VIs offer as much.
That is, try not to let yourself get overwhelmed with choices. There are many that would prove suitable.
Of the VIs mentioned previously, I think Sonik Synth and Atmosphere offer the simplest-to-use solutions, should that be an important variable to weigh in. Their interfaces are geared toward basic-level-understanding users. I'd add USB Ultra Focus to the list with the caveat that it samples older synths, but runs them through a UVI engine allowing for some modern tweaking.
Also to consider: Adding a third-party multimode plug-in can get you user-friendly filter sweeps and the like. Antares Filter is a popular one. Others include CamelSpace, izotope Spectron and PSP Nitro.
Just another opinion.

Chrispick is right (as are some of the others!). I would have to say that Sonik Synth isn't worth the money - I bought it and Sampletank and I hardly use either. Absynth 3 is the king of the big, long atmosphere, but you will have to invest time learning it. CronoX 3 is one of my all-time favorites, but it can take some coaxing to get things to evolve with it. Another one worth considering is Filterscape. Do a google looking for reviews (you may even find some of mine) and you will see what I mean.
Cheers,
BK
…string theory says that all subatomic particles of the universe are nothing but musical notes. A, B-flat, C-sharp, correspond to electrons, neutrinos, quarks, and what have you. Therefore, physics is nothing but the laws of harmony of these strings. Chemistry is nothing but the melodies we can play on these strings. The universe is a symphony of strings and the mind of God… it is cosmic music resonating through 11 dimensional hyperspace.
