Copy/Pasting Audio doesn't land on playhead

Post by bigcityrecording »

I'm experiencing very strange behavior when copy/pasting audio files in the Sequence window. When I copy a soundbite then try to paste it where the scrolling wiper (or playhead) is, the soundbite goes into unexpected places. Sometimes it goes 2 or 3 bars later than the scroll wiper and sometimes behind it. It NEVER goes exactly what the wiper is. It doesn't matter if the sequence is playing or stopped.

However, if I highlight any area on the sequencer window, then that's where the copied bite will be pasted. I always make sure there is no area anywhere highlighted, so it's not because the soundbite is going to a highlighted area.

What I'd like to be able to do is paste this soundbite while the sequence is playing so I'm basically dropping it in as the sequence plays. Later I can go back and fine tune the exact placement.

I'm super baffled as to how DP is deciding where to place a soundbite when pasting. Anyone have some wisdom to spare?

Any help appreciated!

Ok,

Copy/Paste will default to the nearest position on the grid. Unless…

Hold the Command (Mac) or Control (Win) key while you click the mouse in the exact place you want to Copy or Paste. Now either will do you expect.

Likewise, if it doesn't Paste where you want, hold the same key while you drag (or Nudge) the sound bite to the precise location you want. Otherwise, you're back to the grid.

This can be changed/modified. The User Manual is your friend.

The grid can be quite useful—I often copy/paste to it as it means sound bites line up exactly. I use both methods daily.

Everything Mike said. Especially TUMIYF ...I much prefer this to the needlessly aggressive rtfm :)

Also, if you're wanting to use the Paste-at-Wiper command, Smart Selection (in the Edit Menu) will affect where the clipboard data is pasted. With Smart Selection enabled the data will show up on the nearest grid line, with SS disabled it will show up dead on the wiper position.
