recording session over network
Hi all
I've got two g4 with dp4.6 in two different rooms about 30 meters distance
Is it possible to run a recording session over a local network.
How do I implement this? What else will I need?
Is it possible to do it in real time? What about latency?
Please tell me about.
many thanks
Joe

The only network solution that I know of is the wormhole plug in that works well enough in mixing conditions as DP 4.6 automatically compensates the delay induced during the process of sending signal from one computer to the other for processing and then back to DP in the main mixing Mac. But this would not work in real time monitoring.

Explain what is to be recorded in each room.
If over ethernet, you can control a second computer with Apples Remote Desktop but it's only remote control and one audio, no multitrack audio. I understand MIDI can also be added to the connection too.
Why two rooms?

recording session over network
Thanks for answer
In one room there are a little studio. The other is a liveroom where a band is practicising. I don't want to spent a lot of money to connect these rooms ba multicore, so I had the idea to do it over a net solution. At the end I need to have all the recorded tracks on the mac in Room 1. The idea is to leave all the recording installations, mics & monitoring, for a fast recording possability. Power on and record.
It should be fine if I can use the Mac in room2 by remote. I will try it over ethernet. I think I have to do also a monitoring line.
Many thanks
Joe

What about using Apple's AUnetsend and AUnetreceive that are part of Tiger?

If you don't need to monitor back the signal that's being monitored than wormhole should do fine. I'll do some tests this week to see if there are any synchro problems between each track.

I second the Frontier Design TranZport!
Been one of my best purchases for recording.(besides the Avalon, of course...)
Do you want the audio recorded into the "Room A" Mac? Or the "Room B" Mac?
And are you saying that the rehearsal room is "Room B"?
The Tranzport will give you the ability to control either Mac with DP with the ablity to arm tracks for recording, Solo,Mute, Punch, etc...

Take a look. Might be the way to go.
